Well been a while since I was a MARSH member but I am ready to get back to this very rewarding hobby. I remember the MARSH members to be some of the most knowledgable around but the best was how wonderfully nice everyone is.

Here goes.

I ordered last week a new JBJ nano cube 28 with PC lights (I am going for the HQI after I get my feet wet again) and the nice JBJ stand.

Cost $249 tank/stand + $80 Shipping - $20 Bing cashback = $309 total cost to my door.

there is a great ebay deal right now from a JBJ guy.

I have my eye on a tank light 150W HQI + 36W actinic for $85 for when I am ready.

I am debating on the sand bed but I will probably go with 1-2 inch sand.

I am thinking that about 25 lbs of LR is all I may need as there is only about 19 gal of real water in the system.

I am looking to go softies (JBJ 105W 50/50 lamps stock) for a while with some shrimp and crab or two with CUC and maybe 1 fish (spotted Jaw to go with a pistol)

1st Mod will be the refugium conversion. Any good thoughts on lights for this? I have some ideas but any advice is welcome.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may give. Wish me luck.

Sounds good so far. Go check out the NC at T&T to get a good idea of what you might want to do as far as equipment.

For the lights in your fuge I would go with LED strips. You can get them off ebay and they are fully submersible. 2 of the 8 white LED strips is normally what people go with for the 29g. It's alot nicer looking and concealed than scraping the paint off and putting lights back there. There is no light overflow onto the tank at night.

thanks for the light tip.

Could I bother you for a link (PM me if you need) for a good example?

Has anyone tryed filling the bottom of the center section with a DSB an/or rock rubble, and or Miracle Mud? And then adding the macro algae

thanks.

I got ones like these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Wide-white-8-...in_0?hash=item45ed38a4d6&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

Most people don't put LR in the fuge anymore because it holds nitrates and doesn't really help out in a tank this small. Get some cheato and stick it in there. Pax and I along with some other people on nanoreef.com made little chambers to fit in there out of plastic craft cavas. Helps keep the cheato out of the 3rd chamber. Most take out the carbon and put purigen and chemipure in the first/on the top rack of the 2nd chamber. I can take a picture of the back of mine and send it to you if you'd like. People just explaining sometimes gets confusing.
This is a good place for mods for biocubes:

There is a guy in that website that inspired my fuge mod, but used eggcrate instead. Me having the 14g, eggcrate is too big for the back chamber.
If you haven't totally decided on a light yet, LED upgrade is a cool one, allows you to keep the stock hood/gives MH quality. :]

set up the tank a day ago.

I post some pics soon.

my plan for inhabitants...

Six Line Wrasse
Yellow Watchman's Goby
Firefish Goby
Royal Gramma
Purple Pseudochromis

what do you think?

of course a pistol and cleaner shrimp

I have been advised that the Royal Gramma Purple Pseudochromis are poor choices for a nano as there is little room and they are too teritorial.

so here are the updated crew.

Six Line Wrasse
Yellow Watchman's Goby
Firefish Goby
Small O. Clown

and one mystery fish to be named later.

perhaps there are better Shrimp Gobies you all know about?

Perhaps I would be happier with a purple firefish?

thanks in advance for the advice.

I personally like all 4 of the fish you listed. I've never had a shrimp/goby pair, but from reading, it seems you just need a deep sand bed, and a 29g should be sufficient. Watchman gobys are (as far as I've read) a good choice. BUT, people do not recommend keeping a Pistol with any other shrimp, as he will most likely prey on them. Gobys are jumpers, but with a cube you shouldn't have to worry about it. I do know my clown tends to jump back into my filtration from time to time. ;]

Looks nice. Do you already have some zoas in there to the left? I generally use live sand, and it eliminates the cycle, so if you used that as well, that might be why your not seeing one. Man, like no one replys to nano posts on marsh. :[ Bigger isn't always better!

I used a combination of coral sand, live marine substrate, and live sand from an established tank.

There are some recovering zoa's and a couple of FS frags and a single ric

The main pumps are both running at 100% and the K1's are using the wave maker on a 1 minute cycle. If you look closely you will see only one is running at a time.
(I just guessed at the 1 minute cycle - any help with that is apreciated)

Thanks

man 1 min cycles? thats pretty long ive seen most ppl with smaller tanks pulse them to simulate the back and forth currents with what ur doing i think u might create some kid of suction when they alternate due to how long they run IE swirl ur hand in a bucket full of water then once u get it going reverse the other direction and ull see what i mean.what your doing is more of a cyclone or typhoon to better understand what the current may look like in ur tank.

i might get them pulsing together to simulate waves as the tides push then recede similar to what the vortech pumps do watch this to see what i mean.
