I am looking to upgrade from my 100g to about a 360g peninsula tank. The dimensions I am thinking about are 96"L x 24"H x 36"D.
My question is, besides being easier to scratch than glass are there any other disadvantages to acrylic on a tank this size?

I went to the site and liked viewing the beautiful display tanks. So the tank you want will cost around 4000 usd for the tank and shipping?

That's pretty much the only disadvantage-and I'm sure you read about all the advantages.

After a year I'm very happy with my acrylic tank-I have no sand and very high flow so much easier to clean without scratching the acrylic.

That seems to be about the going price, American Aquariums quoted me just under $4000 for the tank and stand shipped.

Ok there is an other option. A guy in Michigan put up a huge aquarium in his basement. He bricked it and used the already there corner foundation. He used a big sheet of acrylic to view into. He used a liner for the rest. You can always check out those guys in Vegas lol

Price seems low they must be using 1/2" think acrylic. Tank that size should be 3/4" thick acrylic.

Sounds like a great deal. Will you be reinforcing your floor if it is not on concrete? Dogs can be expensive too if they need surgery by the best of surgeons like what I went through last year. I have had my 125 for 21 years now and just might have it for another 21. Will the acrylic yellow over time?

It would be 3/4" on all sides and 1/2" for the top and bottom.

1/2” on the bottom is fine. Mine had that. Me personally, i would prefer 3/4” top. No tight radiuses.

Is your quote from fish tanks direct? If so pm me your ph# so we can talk.

I was just thinking 21 years is not the longest aquarium piece that I am using. I still have a big hook on back pump from around 1994 that I have used all the time since and have even run dry many times. Cool eh :) FYI A guy in Toronto is selling 4 by 8 ...3/4 inch sheets of acrylic for 550 cad each. (I think they are new on KIJIJI)... he has lots of sheets so 500 cad. might be a reasonable offer

Unfortunately I have no experience working with acrylic and would not want to start learning on a tank this size.

Contact Chris Buys on Facebook. I'm pretty sure he builds acrylic tanks and he's been in the business for a while. He also doe nice wood working if you want a stand or canopy. He also will randomly have aquarium accessories for sale at great prices.

I told him about this thread. Hopefully he'll jump on in person. If not I'll ask if I can share his number.
