Honestly it’s not worth it. PVC is cheap. I bought mine from this company and I believe it may be the same place that BRS orders their pipe from. Much cheaper than buying from BRS too. :)

What do you think about the resin coating? I am filling the tank now…

Honestly, I think it might work OK for a while, but eventually fade away and possibly lead to issues with the tank. I haven’t done any research on that specific paint that you used, but painting large runs of plumbing may put you at risk. If it was something simple like a return nozzle I’d feel much better about it. A lot of tanks are high in Tin and other elements and most seem to do OK unless the level is super excessive.

Reefs are complicated enough as it is. Trying to guess what is going wrong when things start to go downhill is very difficult and nerve racking. For that reason I try to mitigate any possible issues from the beginning. You gotta know when to hold em and when to fold em. In this case… since plumbing is one of the cheaper purchases in this hobby, it might be smart to cut the old pipe out and plumb some new runs in. Union’s and Coupler’s can be your best friend in reefing. :)

I paid $84.50 for all my “colored” pipe on the new build. That’s pretty cheap if you ask me. Definitely give it some thought.

If you don’t have anything in the tank yet, fire that thing up and run it for a few weeks and then send off a Triton Test and see what the levels are.

If you do end up redoing the plumbing, make sure to wait 24-48 hrs before running water through the system. Good luck! 👍🏼

i used colored PVC, but it isn't available in as many fittings - so I have a few under-the-waterline pieces painted with krylon fusion. Been a year, still look fine, at least where it isn't coated in coralline. I think leaching issues with dried paint and not likley to cause problems. Plywood tanks have a lot more painted surface area (different paint though)
I did not coat with a resin - but I'll be interested to hear how it works out for you.
I wasn't concerned about leaching - I just thought it would look better and last longer - the colored PVC is colored all the way through, where the paint is a coating that might scratch off (determined urchin?)
