OK, So I found my bulkhead and got it installed with any leaks from the bulkhead. But it is leaking from the fitting. It is a 3/4" bulkhead with a female treading on the inside. I put a male threaded elbow with teflon tape in the hole. It is leaking from that fitting. I tried putting extra layers of teflon and it is still leaking. Any suggestions?

if you don't plan on having to take the fitting apart, i would use silicone.

Brad,
You might over tighten it and crack the bulkhead fitting. Teflon tape will do fine.

I don't think I overtighted it. I just snugged it down finger tight. I don't think I will have to take it apart and if I do, it will be taken apart at the bulkhead fitting not the elbow coming out of the bulkhead. Therefore, I should be safe using silicone

Should I just runn the silicone around the outside of the elbow fitting. Or take it apart and put the silicone on the threads of the elbow that will go into the bulkhead?

Any thoughts?

i would just put it on the threads, thats what i have done to all the tanks i mess with. granted, it's a pain if you ever need to take it apart but it's almost guaranteed to stop the leaks(if that's where it's leaking from).

Put a large bead of Silicone at the beginning of the threads of the male fitting. As you thread the fittings together the sealant will be transfered to all of the threads and produce a great seal.

Is that the bulkhead you got from me?

How bad is the leak? If it really slow give it a week and the salt creep will stop the leak on its own.

Superdave, yea its the bulkhead i got from you. Is that why you gave it to me b/c you knew it leaked  . Just kidding, the bulkhead it watertight, just the fitting coming out is leaking. I put some silicone on the threads tonight and will check it in 24 hours.

Shane, the leak was very slow drip. Unfortunately it is on my RO/DI storage container. Therefore, no salt creep to stop the leak.

Crossing my fingers to hope the silicone works.
