Hello, I am starting a new tank and I am setting a 120gal tank with two of the famous ebay block box and after re-wiring and setting the VDM and hanging them 10-12" from the top f the tank, I only see a narrow bean of light.

any suggestions on how to set the lights?

Many thanks

If they are MarsAqua you can probably get away with raising them higher off the tank and as Luman suggested rotate them 90°.

MA uses 60° secondary optics which is great for deeper tanks but causes that type of issue when closer to the surface. If you want to keep them that close to the surface you can purchase 90° or 120° secondary optics to replace the 60° ones on ebay. The other option would be to remove the secondary optics and try that as well.
