I am setting up a new 30 gallon cube for seahorses. I wanted to link this to my 125 reef. Can i do this directly after the new setup or should I wait. I was hoping I could link them right away to help cycle the new tank faster. There will only be sand and live rock in the 30 gallon. Will this have much of an effect on my reef. Thanks

If your large reef is already established, or even if it is not, you should have no problem linking a bare 30 gallon cube to it. You only have to worry if you are going to be adding a lot of live rock to that cube right away. Since that is not the case, the linked tanks with communal water will help to seed the new set up without having to go through a complete (or possibly not even a partial) cycle.

Just make sure that you have plenty of branch work in the cube for the sea horses to cling to.

Don't be suprised if you have lot of algae on your LR in the 30.
Can't have too much current in seahorse tanks.
I ended up throwing all the LR into my refugium on my seahorse tank because it got too much brown and hair algae.
Granted the hair algae had a population of pods that could compare to the human population in China.
I still get tons of brown algae on my sand bed, but it doesn't look as bad as the rocks looked.
