So for those who don't know me im Juan DeLeon. have been laying low for some time and havent been active on many pages so decided to keep it local and start a build thread here. Quick run thru my current tank is a red sea 525 XL, has been up and running going on 5 years. it is not sps dominated and actually the only thing not SPS is the zoas encrusted on rocks that i cant kill fast enough i did have a file fish in there that was eradicating aptasia along with all the zoas but noticed him running out of food so decided to take him back to my local fish store. i dont have many full tank pics but ya'll get the idea. This tank is powered by 5 hydra 26's HD and aqualife T5 with 4 blue pluss bulbs, a skimme, dosing pump dosing 150ml of alk and cal, 4 MP40's and 1 M1. i was practicing no water changes for about 6 months but im back to biweekly water changes 20%. i have been looking into moonshiners for trace elements but just seems like a tad bit of work im not convinced yet i want to do.

sooo under development.
some of you may remember i was working on a 180 from planet aquariums but that quickly took a turn when i came across this beauty on one of the Facebook pages,

picked up this new 270 made by crystal dynamic. 72x36x24, 3 side starphire, reinforced starboard bottom, reinforced vertical seams, along with overlapping double top brace. I gotta say this tank is a beauty. My buddy came with me to katy to load it up, 2 little guys and this massive tank in texas heat was not very fun. took a few hours to load it up i wish i had pics of the operation but it was just to hot for all that. It took one day to get it in my garage and a second full day to get it inside my house. no suction cups, no help, same 2 little guys.

once inside i started tinkering ideas for my stand. i knew i wanted steel so slowly came up with this plan.

after receiving a few quotes that seemed to me a bit to expensive i decided to put my old fabrication skills to use, instead of purchasing a stand i invested in a new welding machine, dusted off my old welding hood and took a trip down to Tripple S steel. Did have to purchase a few tools also just because its been some time since i fabricated... it took no time to get going on this project,,

Once it was fabbed up and tacked i did take a break for a few weeks just because it was simply to hot but slowly started getting back in the groove this past week and decided to finish it up.

So thats where im at, my stand is now ready for paint, my buddy Jose from oceanlife told me that he will be ready for me to drop it off this saturday at his paint yard. so im excited.

I wanting to go with an orange paint, what are yall's thoughts?

I love both tanks! Looking forward to following along with the new tank build. Is this new tank replacing your Red Sea or will this be tank #2 for you?

As for colors, I'm a +1 on the idea of orange. It pops very nicely and is a nice switch up from your common black or white...not to mention if you plan on running an Apex its a nice complimentary color. Are you leaving the stand open or will you be fabricating a skin to go around it?

Im still kicking ideas around, what im really considering is going with 5 more hydra 26's and staggering them with my existing 5 so new and old ones blend together total of 10, sump wise i really want the 48" trigger tideline. going to continue with the MP40's QD but will add 2 more power heads on the sides, the long ones i forgot what they are called.
will be getting a second M1 for the hearts of this beast. eventually a cal reactor but will start off using the Vertex step dosser im currently using.

YES! gyre! the tank has 2 holes drilled on top for gyre wiring
Very cool! I run a gyre on 2 of my tanks, a Maxspect on one and an Ice Cap on the other. I'd recommend the Maxspect...the Ice Cap is too noisey.

No pics today, I dropped the stand off for paint yesterday afternoon and will be ready by Monday. I asked the Pinter for orange if available and cheap but also said if he don’t have it at hand then to surprise me. Anything but black. I’m off all next week. Hoping to have the tank on the stand and pre plumbing started before my fishing trip to hackberry on Thursday night.

Well I checked on the stand yesterday. Was not complete but getting close. I asked to be surprised on the color and well I gotta say it’s gonna be nicer than I expected. This was just the primer.
