Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I am looking to get back into the hobby. I used to have a nano (20G I think) reef aquarium with overflow box and a wet/dry sump a number of years ago, but now that I have a house am looking to upgrade to a 90 gallon and also get a stand at the same time. I am looking at doing a refugium and get a pre-drilled tank.

I am on the Southwest side of Houston in Missouri City. Where would be the place that has a good stock and will be open this weekend for me to have a look and buy?

Also what is the typical cost of a 90G + stand reef ready new these days? I called T&T reef and they quoted me $1,000 for a 75 gallon aquarium and stand. Is this a fair price?

Thanks for the help

James

Well your on the southside so you could take a look over at ADG (Aquarium Design Group) if you havent been there its like an art gallery for fish tanks.
Also, you could try City Pets, they are south as well and carry some tanks.

a little further in is Oceanlife.

But if your willing to make the drive, FJW, Galactic Corals and That Aquarium Place all carry some very nice tanks that are affordable.

Thanks for the reply. Definitely no issues going for a drive. I am just starting this process so I am not in a huge hurry so if not this weekend then next is fine as well. I just don't want to overpay.

None of our listed sponsors are going to over charge you. I can’t speak about any of the others.

I went to the aquarium design group today and talked to Josh. He was awesome and very helpful. He helped me pick out some lights as well. Then he gave me some free dry rock to fill my tank. It was a very good experience. I went with the Red Sea Reefer 350.

I think a lot of aquariums are outta stock right now because shipping containers cost like 3-4x more than what they did before covid. So theres a huge price increase. More than what majority of people are willing to pay.

So unless the tank is made locally, it might be rough trying to find anyone thats gonna be able to replenish stock.

Yeah, I’m just going to wait. I’m not in a massive hurry and I still have some equipment and supplies to buy before it arrives anyways. This will give me time to buy some salt, power heads, test equipment, etc. I need all of this stuff anyways since it’s my first tank in my new house and the old equipment I had is long gone.

Okay, I’ll swing in there tomorrow and see what they have. Thanks! How well do the Planet Aquariums compete on price? They look really nice and are made here so that’s appealing for sure.

I thought I got a good deal from him. I don’t think he can change price on the actual aquarium but maybe can cut a deal on accessories
