I called many places including having generac come out to my house to give me a quote. All of them told me at least 5-6 months before delivery. So I went online to Lowe’s and saw most all of theirs said the same thing, until I scrolled down to the bottom and all the ones not available before where repeated again but now available. And the price was $500 less than at generac.

figured it was just a mistake but I ordered one anyway just to see... 4 days later and it showed up at my house! Now I just need to get it installed.

You mean $5000 less.

I recently asked an electrician I know how much it would cost to install a generac and he told me $7,000!!!

does anyone know why it would cost this much to install or know an electrician that would have a more reasonable price?

Surely that included the generator?

Oh and hooking it up shouldn’t be more than a weekend DIY project. 🤓
I’m gonna leave that to the professionals, my home insurance company frowns on doing that type work without a permit. If the house burns down they are likely to not pay the claim.

$7k way to much for install only but right now is probably reality. I expect it will be next Spring before things settle back down to more reasonable but it will be $4-5k for installation and that much again for generator. They are not cheap.

We went through Home Depot (Canter) and ended up paying $15,000 for a 22k. We were able to finance it through home depot for 2 years 0%. Asked a couple of electricians and although they were cheaper (not by a whole lot) they did not finance nor guarantee their work. From what I learned, every install is different, ours is pretty complex because the power panel is all the way on the other side of the house, which is going to require over 120ft of pipe through the attic. I also spoke with my Home Owners insurance and had a similar response, so I'm ok paying more for the peace of mind.

I figured sooner or later we are going to get hit by another hurricane, and now we have snow storms to deal with.... I'm using to dealing with power losses in the summer (used to live in South Florida) but the snow storm was just brutal...

Good idea [emoji106]

If you watch the installation process it’s very complex - it’s not just a gas line connection. There are tons of wires for the computer and other components.

I would not even trust a regular electrician unless they have previous installation experience.

Generator and installation should not go over $10k - my boss got it done for $9300

Looking good-

Depending on code I would’ve installed that monkey 3 ft high [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

With Houston flooding you never know.

I took it as high as my lowest outlet in my home.. any higher than that would be pointless.

I need to get a quote as well. My house was built about 3 years ago, and they pre-installed a lot of infrastructure, gas line, conduit raceways, wire for a future generator. I could save a few dollars if I DIY. I know an electrician that will bless it for me if I choose to DIY. I do not want to go through the winter storm without power again like we did a few months back.
