I can't make up my mind what I want to stock my nano tank with. I thought I would just do a couple of clownfish or firefish, something easy...but now Im thinking about doing a mantis shrimp. Given that I know nothing about these guys I thought I better enlist the help of the collective to help me determine if this is really a smart move or not. Anyone have experience with these guys? Are these guys good in a nano tank? Are they good with corals and nems? What/How often should they be fed? Can ANY fish be in with them that isn't intended to be food?

First things first... if you're getting a peacock mantis, it will need at least 30g and 1/2 thick glass.
Pretty much any fish or clean up crew you add will be killed. Not too sure about corals though.

Well, that was a short lived possibility haha! I was considering a small one for the nano tank. Just looking for something different and species specific. Any suggestions?

Lol there are other mantis shrimps that you can put in smaller tanks, green mantis shrimp for instance. They require a minimum of 10g but they are smashers like the peacock so acrylic tanks are recommended.
What size is your nano tank?

It's an IM10

I always struggle trying to think of a species only stocking option.
I was thinking leaf fish or angler fish of some sort, but I believe they all need more than 10g if I remember correctly.
At one point I was planning on a sexy shrimp tank, but never followed through with the idea. I think it would be entertaining to watch.

I have seen a few folks with Anglers, and the sexy shrimp is also a good idea.

I kept one in the sump few years back...most of the time it hid in it's cave. It came out only when I dropped some food in and that's the only time I saw the thing. It's cool to look at though.

I'm going to get the first TBS package shipment next week, if I get one in the two shipments, you're welcome to it!

Unfortunately not. As much as I like the idea of a Mantis, I recognize an IM10 just isn't the best option, so I'm still searching. I'm defintely open to suggestions though.

At Reef Currents the GHAC was evangelizing this philosophy of raising only one thing in a tank and having it as an art piece. Mantis requires min 30G, per @ITreefer, but maybe a clam or something would be cool. I believe that’s what GHAC had displayed. Pretty rad concept.

Oh probably don’t want to do a goby with the nems.
