This may disqualify me since it's freshwater, but I haven't gotten any new saltwater gear this year.

I upgraded the old T8 light (pictured at right) that came with my 29-gallon tank back in 1988 to a Fluval plant LED that just arrived today. It sure is way brighter than the old T8. Haven't downloaded the app yet that allows you to program it - just using the button to turn on/off and dim. Gonna try my luck with a planted tank.

Frank, just friendly advise here. Looks like you buried the rhizome of the java fern in there. Plants like java and Anubias do way better when you attach them to stuff like wood and rocks. If you have to plant it in the substrate just bury the roots, not the rhizome.

I am not sure if this counts as new "reefing gear" or not but, it is kind of reef related. This is my new DIY Bluetooth/App controlled light lifter system for two ATI Powermodules for my long awaited 220G build. It turned out really well.

Finally got my upgrade 😅.

165g custom peninsula. My son set up his AIO clown tank, a cherry shrimp tank, turtle tank and a tetra tank. 😎😎

New Kessil & Reef Brite Light Combo

20230120_172804.jpg

This is essentially "Randy's Lighting Bundle" that I DIY'd myself. I'm a huge fan of the Metal Halide and T5 Light combo and was super sad when I had to retire my rig. I saw this a few years ago on BRS and said YES! Took me...A MINUTE...to get all the pieces and build it up myself. I had all of the parts for at least 6 months before putting it together and hanging it above my tank. Took advantage of the Christmas holiday break for some free time. I have to say the brackets were a little pricey but in the end, it was TOTALLY worth it. I love this rig!! The shimmer is every bit as good if not better as the metal halides and the light spread by the Reef Brites is actually better than the T5s. Overall I am SUPER happy with this upgrade!!
