Today I got the gfi's. And ordered titanium ground probe off of Amazon. After looking around town for one and comparing to another Amazon site. I will keep an eye out for a reefaholic recommended test kit. Yesterday I had to take out a double filter so I could set up my small protien skimmer. So I am getting there.

Ok, here’s the list. As you can see there’s different phosphate test kits. I like the phosphorus ULR because it has the lowest range (0.001 - 0.2 ppm), but it reads in ppb. I never run over 0.15ppm so it’s great to see that really low range read out. For you (since you’re likely on the higher side) The Phosphate ULR should be ok. It’s range is 0.01-0.9 ppm. Hopefully you’re not over 0.9 ppm, but if you are over that the last meter will read up to 2.50 ppm.

The ALK meter is quick and easy.

The Nyos Nitrate Kit will read up to 160 mg/l, but I find it more accurate on the lower end, but it will give you a ballpark. For me it’s very accurate on the first card.

So make sure you know exactly which Hanna you’re buying for phosphate. :)

Don’t for get the Hanna ALK tester! Quick and easy. That will definitely get you going in a better direction. Then we can get your numbers up or down from there. BTW, what was your last PO4 reading? I’m trying to get an idea of where your tank has settled with your feeding and nutrient export methods.

Well looks like the mini protien skimmer is here to stay. I might not use it on the hot humid days of summer just to cut down on the humidity in the house... possibly. I am getting some yucky scum along with some water that looks almost black when poured down the sink. I tried it when I got it a few years back and all it was doing is blowing bubbles...no scum no nuthin. Those 5 big sponges in the bucket is the only difference. Along with using rodi water now instead of charcoal filtered Lake Huron via treatment plant wata

I have never bothered much with ph. Because up to around 5 years ago part of my filtration was a almost full length under gravel filter. Crushed gravel neutralizes ph to around 8. Thing is it is very hard to keep it clean and will never go back. Now I have plastic mesh bags of crushed coral along with filter media in my 2 of 3 hang on the back filters.
