Good afternoon all,

A bar I frequent has a beach theme and she really wants jellyfish. She bought the jell cylinder 5 and quickly killed the 3 jellfish that were shipped to her after two weeks.

From what i gathered the tank wasn't cycled and the salinity got off frequently because no one would top it off.

I added an auto top off, got it cycled, off of my other 3 tanks water, added some tiger pods and 3 very small blue hermits. Everything's seems to be doing alright. The tank actually looks pretty sweet.

Does anyone know of a place local to get moon jellies. The website has 2 smalls and a medium for around 130 shipped.

any suggestions on care? My goal is to get them to live for 6 months.

I wish I could help you. They are beautiful and super relaxing, but I have no knowledge about them at all. I can’t even think of anybody off hand to refer you to. Actually I know one guy that you should contact about it. He will probably know more than most. His name is Richard Ross. You can find him in multiple places if you do a quick Google search. Good luck with those!

Thanks you!

Well I put in the order for 2-1" jellies and 1-2" jelly!

I hope the endeavor does not end up like seahorses, just too much damn work.

In over 30 years in the hobby, I can't recall ever seeing jellies for sale in local stores, except for the "upside down" ones.

When I was at MACNA in 2017, I talked to two different vendors of jellyfish tanks. One made it sound really easy to keep them, one made it sound challenging and a lot of work. I chose to believe the latter one and have never tried it, but it sure is tempting.

Moody Gardens does a lot with breeding jellies. You might reach out to MARSH member seaturtle who works there for advice.

I used to see them all the time for sale when I went to the marine fish stores in Detroit and area. I bought one once. At Canadian customes they wanted me to go inside to see if I could bring it into Canada or not. It was less than 1.5 hours in the bag and it was starting to deteriorate already. It was not endangered so I could bring it in....In 2 days it was all gone. Good luck in your venture.

Yeah transferring them I tried to get pictures, but it just looks like water. All the instructions talk about not allowing them to touch air so I used a ladle. The urge not to transfer their water was still strong from years of the hobby telling me not too.
