Do you guys clean them or let coralline algae grow on them. I prefer them clean. What would reefers do without vinegar.

Nice tank! How do you like your trigger?

As for the Vortechs: clean. But only because as they get dirty their performance drops. If the performance stayed constant I'd probably never clean them....

Don't bother with vinegar, go with (diluted) muriatic acid :) Cleans them in no time.

Thanks man! My all time favorite fish is the trigger. I got about 15 fish but he is definitely the coolest fish. Not aggressive at at...very docile fish.

Sorry dude.:lol_hitting:

Cleaning it aint too bad. Leave it in vinegar over night and rinse it in the morning.

Cat, thanks for the info. I didn't know that. Always learning something new. I'll definitey try it.

I let coraline grow because I like it but I clean mine every couple of months to make sure there isn't build up in or around the impeller.

Love the look of pure black freshly cleaned Vortech's. Mine get the vinegar bath as well. I've even contemplated buying two more wet side assemblies so I don't have any down time while they soak.

Cat, what dilution do you run? It doesn't mess up the plastic? How long do you let them soak also?

Nothing really scientific. There's a number of pros/cons listed online with using muriatic acid and different dilutions. You don't need much. It does require precautions to use though, vinegar is definitely safer if slower to use!

Thanks man. Lights are 400 watt 20K XM bulbs just in case you are shopping for it. Also got a couple of T5 for supplementation.

Wow! Dude, you're tank is outstanding! I hope to join in your success one of these days!

I liked my MP's clean too. I used 1:1 vinegar:water solution in a 10g tank. I'd actually run them in the tank, on a lower setting, for 24 hours, then take an old toothbrush to them to finish them off. I had 2 spare wetsides for swapping out, but not for the MP60's. I didn't have those for too long, and I was running short on funds. LOL!

How long are you guys letting your pumps soak that you need faster methods?

Yeah I'm sticking to vinegar. :)

Safer Bet!
