So I woke up to my apex alerting me that my temp dropped below 75... I have a titanium 500w heater, the display was still working and adjusting but it wasn’t heating.... this is my 2nd one that’s gone out in as many years so I’m thinking I should go a different route..

What heater do y’all suggest? I have a 120g and only want 1 heater.

I emailed BRS last week they should have some in stock later this month. Buy a cheap one and wait it out.

Speaking of...I saw a great thread about having a grounding probe. I need to get one but not sure how to do it. I need to go back and re-read that thread.
mine is screwed into my EB832, iirc it's all grounded, but I did want to double check that. They make ones that only go into the ground on a standard nema plug.

I got a BRS 200watt heater and seems to work ok. The suction cups actually hold after 15 minutes and it is still stuck to the bottom of my sump. I am loving the BRS heater controller that I got at the MARSH Christmas party. (Thank you guys!) I know it is just an Inkbird controller so you can get it from Amazon or others. Since it is just regular plugs it allows any 2 heaters up to 1200 watts total.

I picked one up off of either Amazon or BRS and it's about as simple as you can get. It has a dummy plug with only the ground probe for the socket, as well as a wire loop to screw into a ground if needed. The other end is either a titanium or stainless tip probe and a suction cup that you stick in the sump. About once a month I take a scotch-brite pad to it and make sure there is no bio-film on it and to remove anything that has decided to attach to it.

I replace my heaters about every 1-1.5 years regardless if they are working or getting flaky. I have had too many fail on me in the past to not do so as well as always have an extra on hand just in case.

@gregg I have been running the Colbalt Neo-therm heaters for the past several years and so far have not had an issue with them. They maintain a very stable temp with no adjustments needed. I use those Bayite temperature controllers as a fail safe in case the heater fails, an alarm goes off or kills power to the heater. I keep my house at 68f at night and and a 200w is more than enough for my 75g at 76F. The BRS titanium heaters are supposed to be fairly reliable as well.

FYI, I bought a Neo-therm about a year ago, because they are super slim and very consistent with the temp fluctuations. I use only on my QT tanks, but have since reconsidered.

There are so many horror story threads on those heaters. I couldn't believe it. Now I'm paranoid about using it. Just wanted to make you guys aware.

Just read the reviews on BulkReefSupply. I suspect in the future they will no longer carry this heater.

So YOURE the one that got the brs conrtroller?! I was wondering who made off with that. I had the chance at that one but passed it over and ended up with the inkbird one. I need the dual heater one, and not the one for heater and chiller. I should have snagged it up. Oh well. I'll just end up buying one soon.

I was impressed during setup that it actually had a temperature correction. You cannot do that with most heaters and many are off right out of the box. I find myself walking by and checking the temp quite often. I assume the inkbird has the same temp correction but I thought that was nice.

I strongly recommend having more than one heater. If you go away you have the peace of mind that if a heater does fail you will not come home to a tank full of dead fish. As well it may save on your electricity bills because you can have lower wattage heating your aquarium most of the time. I use a few that total 500w for my 125 in the great white north. I use not too pricy submersables.
