Well I promised myself I’d keep this little tank as simple as possible. No apex.

So so first I added a ADJ power strip.

Then installed a 24” T5 fixture I already had. The water is still suffering from the Dr Tim’s bacteria I added to cycle the tank. It created a huge bacterial bloom. This is good and means it’s working properly.

Simple is beautiful, my friend.
I'm going to play with a wifi-enabled power strip, reeflink & Alexa with my new build. You can do "routines" with alexa to do complex things, I'm just not sure how reliable it'll be.
Alexa in my living room does dumb **************** all the time.

I'm building a Waterbox 75.2 right now. I'm doing the same thing as you, simplification. Powerhead, light, skimmer, return, heater/controller, ATO ... that's it. When I type that all out, it still seems like a lot of stuff to do maintenance on.

The reeflink doesn't go under the stand, so it's a toy I can play with at my leisure.

Yeah, sometimes it’s better to keep it as simple as possible especially on a smaller reef. If I go larger, it will be more controlled because it’s just easier.

Dry rock constantly giving me issues in the beginning. So over it.

Phosphates high on a daily basis. Having to starve the tank to keep them under 0.3.

So annoying..

Check out how dark the rock has become in such a short time frame:

Before:

After:

Here’s my little control station:

Tank still going through the typical dry rock early phases. Diatoms, elevated PO4, bacterial blooms, etc. I’m not really adding anything because it’s still too young and this will be my future quarantine system for frags. At least I’ll have two independent systems that can function on their own if need be. Although that’s more work so I’m thinking about tying this one in with the new system.

Tonight’s numbers:

ALK: 9.7
CAL: 450
MAG: 1360
PO4: 0.06
NO3: Took a rapid dive from 5 down to 0 tonight. Just dosed aggressively and it will be back to 3 tomorrow. Then will bring it back to 5 in the next 24 hours.

The PO4 has been dropping and I’ve noticed the NO3 is going with it. I’m having to up my dosing. The key is to not let it sit at zero so you don’t loose color. I think the corals are starting to consume more as well. I’ve noticed my ALK and CAL are starting to dip more.

I’ll probably stick a GHL on this thing soon. Then switch the GHL over to the 75 once it’s sucking ALK and CAL. Then I’ll likely tie this tank in for less maintenance. Just trying to figure that out as this will be my quarantine tank at that point. Might be better to leave it stand alone.

We’ll it’s official, this little tank is now down to 0.01 PO4.

I’m not sure if it was actually leeching, but it sure seemed like it. The only reason why I suspect it wasn’t is because the levels never got over 1.0. I think the rock was binding the available PO4 from the water column due to a new tank. I’m not certain if this was from the reef roids, pellet food, or just a new tank syndrome. Although it does seem odd that when this all stops the tank can handle the same amount of feeding and be ok the next day instead of having elevated levels.

So the total time was from July 7th to Sept. 22.
