Well in the hyperlink in my post for KZ flatworm stop, KZ says it helps to treat AEFW. The tank has never had AEFWs, and I don't have experience battling them either. What I'm told in discussions w/ other local reefers' experiences using the product, its side effects of helping the acro's repel AEFWs are fatter polyps which in turn gives better polyp extension. It maybe a source of iodine as well? All anecdotal experiences, but hey, if others are having success with it, why not try it right?

Love the goldflake angel - is it well behaved? 😊

He's King of the tank for sure and will take crap from no one lol. Both have barely picked at the sps, If i miss a feeding, they will let me know lol. but both of those fish are the reason I wanted the attached mangrove tank with LPS because I did not want to chance pricey LPS becoming food. Heck, i was pissed the tiny filefish I put in there for help with aptasia control went rogue... but fortunately those are easy to catch without tearing up your tank.

Pretty standard parameters, but really the goal is just to keep the numbers consistently between a range (Trident and Hanna are my friends):
  • pH runs 8-8.25, sometimes > 8.3 if we get good weather and if everyone is out of the house lol
  • Alk readings are between 8-9 dKh but the goal is to keep the readings 0.5 dKh within each other
  • Calc readings are 375-490
  • Mag readings have been 1400-1500
  • Nitrates read 4-10
  • Phosphates read 0.03-0.07
After the first year, I haven't religiously tested nitrates and phosphates. Though, I'll get some confirmation of phosphate readings from ICP. To get a feel on nutrient levels, I prefer to go by how my tank looks to the eye, bc I'm a lazy reefer lol. If I see more green haze, gunk, cyano, I'll skip a feeding or two, or cut the amount fed. It'll also remind me to siphon detritus and do a manual water change.

There's a link to Easy SPS in the previous post, but basically its a particulate food suspension that is shelf stable, not needing refrigeration, so its simple to place on a doser, keeping food available in the water column. It was recommended to me by lots of local reefers. Seems to help growth and polyp extension so far, truthful to the manufacturer's claims and others experiences. Again, if people are having success with it, no reason not to try it lol.
