If I were to remove all other supplemental flow/pumps, would the icecap gyre 4k be too little or too much for a 90 gallon (48x18 by 24high)? What about 2 of the 4k's?

I've been looking around online and can't find anything that specifically talks about using 1 or 2 on my size tank... I'm sure there's something out there, but hopefully someone here can help :)

With gyres you really need the two at the top opposing each other for the full effect.

I have the largest Maxspect gyres (350s)on my tank (48” 150g) and I love them. I’d much rather have a larger model running at 20-30% than the smaller models turned up higher.

I had the IceCap 2ks in a 48" x 24" x 12" and I had to run them at 30% - 35%.
With the 4ks, being 24" in height you may probably run about the same.

I’m thinking about getting two icecap 4ks for my 150 (60x24x24). It’s an sps dominant tank and I would like to mount them opposite of each other horizontally. My concern is that I would have some colonies about 6” in front of the pumps on either side. I’m wondering if this will be too much for the coral in those positions.

I have a couple small jebao gyres in some frag tanks and they have great wide flow patterns, but the flow doesn’t seem to be as intense directly in front of the gyres the way that it is directly in front of traditional powerheads. Anyone have any input on this?

you can definitely feel it in front of the icecap's and or maxspects I have but its not a point source and of course depends on the intensity.

Go bigger Cody. I had a gyre 3k and felt that it wasn’t strong enough even running almost 80% in my 180, especially when they get a little dirty. As the others mentioned get a larger one and run lower. Also less stress on motor, less noise and more potential to ramp up when your stuff overcrowds your tank from growth.

I thought the 4K was the biggest one that icecap made?

it is. the only thing bigger is maxspect 350
Wait, so are the XF330 and XF350 the newer models? The XF350 is 5000GPH, but they have an XF280 model that’s over 6000GPH. Is the XF280 the older model?

yes. and correct the 280 is older. I'm not sure if its discontinued or not yet. Maybe they going to come out with something to replace it.

So the maxspect XF350 (for a pair) is $420. For the 4K icecaps it’s $320 for a pair.

I like the lower price tag, but the extra flow would be nice. I wish I could see them in action in person before I decide.

I have 350s and 2ks. Had the 4ks in the frag tank but replaced them with 2ks.
Definitely see them both as controllers have Pros and Cons.

Look for the older model if you want to save a few bucks. Pair of Xf250s would rock. Saw it on ebay a while back.
