Hi all,
This is my first saltwater setup, I've been doing FW for a number of years. I was given a Nanocube 12DX shell, that needs some work. Here's what I have so far and have done:

1. Ordered a new ballast to support 2x24W PC lights
2. Installed MJ1200.
3. Ordered 1/2 Loc-line to support two outputs for each side of the tank.
4. 20lbs. LR in a bucket saltwater, I don't plan on using it all.
5. 20lbs LS
6. Salt & hydrometer

I've been reading posts on many sites for months and have gained alot of knowledge from my readings. This is a great site and hope to learn from everybody's experiences. I plan on taking pics as I go along this adventure to share with everyone. I have a few things to do still before I can setup, but I'm being patient.

1. Build stand this weekend
2. Buy saltwater test kit.
3. Buy heater.

I will post some pics of the stand and the fuge light that I'm almost finished with. Thanks again for all great info and would appreciate any feedback and criticism.

Man if that were me...

1. woud have been ordered or made halide fixture.
2. would have been installed mj900 since it's barely less gph but a lot less watts.

I had to do alot of convincing to the financial boss to do another tank much less a saltwater one. I had the MJ1200 already but will change to a MJ900 later. As for the lights, I plan on making 70W MH in the future after I get used to this setup.

Update finally cycling

Well it been awhile since I posted updates, been busy. I finally got it set up and have begun cycling. Here's a few pics to show how it looks so far. I would appreciate your feedback on the scape. I will be getting a test kit this weekend to check parameters.

My intial parameters are:

temp - 81
sg - 1.026
pH - 7.8

I was thinking of using the API reef kit as I have had good success with their freshwater kit on my other tanks. Do you have a recommendation? I'm not sure on stocking yet, still researching. I really like rics. Thanks

Moving along

Everything is moving along ok. I added a Damesl and a hermit per LFS opinion and all is well. I seem to have an out break of red algae. What should I purchse next?

Nothing if you don't remove the damsel.

I would probably start with zoanthids or softies... start with one or two while the tank is stabilizing then break out the wallet for more.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of the red algae or is this normal during the cycle. It seems to be spreading. I'm new at this so not to sure if I'm just overreacting to something that is not an issue.

Thanks

red algae?

Hi

Is it diatom bloom? I had that when I first set up my 29BC and now my 12 nanocube - it went away after about a week along with a 10% water change too. I had a problem with red slime algae but I was overfeeding and my nitrates were higher than they should have been. The red spots on your rocks in your picture is good algae - coraline algae - so if its only that then all is well :)

Share some pics

Well the new corals are settling in good and I was bored so I took a few pics. Let me know what you think about my placement.
