After the tank is not cleaned for 2 weeks:

PO4 0.06
NO3 12+ (really don’t know how high, but they appear to be under 20 now).

Still no skimmer, but I’ve now noticed that I’ll start having to do more frequent water changes in order to keep the tank from growing algae.

Awesome tank, how are the three clowns fairing? Look young, but eventually they are going to duke it out.

I've already had some fights. I also have two black ice clowns that I sumped. The 3 in the tank were doing ok until I saw 2 of them locked together. Yikes!

Update:

I switched to ESV B-Ionic for 1 gallon of Cal, Alk, and Mag it was $56. I hear they last longer because they're more concentrated.

I also switch over to Fritz RPM Salt.

Will update about the transition from BRS to ESV and how the Fritz salt does. Will also update on any significant changes I notice from the ESV vs the BRS. If it's not significant...I will be switching back to BRS 2-part due to the cheaper cost.

Ohh, and I ordered a Deltec 600ix.

Hi there,

Thanks a ton for the order and great call going with a Deltec! These things are hard to beat.

The ac is the way to go if you ask me. Definitely a more solid and reliable pump. You made the right call👍

Will go out Monday for sure. Please let me know if you have any questions at all on set up or use

Thanks again!

Nice use both the salt and the 2 part!

Don't fear the algae Haha!

I don't have a skimmer yet either and my tank has a good amount popping up. My rolling ball of cheato needs a stronger light.

I like a little algae. lol. My sump has plenty growing and it's out competing my display. I took a large rock cover in various algae species that was getting overgrown and put it in my display for 1 day. My 2 tangs and blenny demolished it within 12 hrs. It's picked clean as a bone. I returned it to the sump for the next feeding in 2 months. lol.

I decided to buy the Deltec because my pH was creeping high 8.4-8.5. Not to mention the lack of aeration w/o a skimmer and the funk they always pull out. The tank just cannot handle it right now without large frequent water changes. I mean it could, but it's not my style. I like to run cleaner in the first 6 months to prevent algae blooms. After that I'll let it get ripe.

BTW...I was gonna get the 600ix, but ended up getting the 1000ix.

600ix = 14 x 22 x 51cm
1000ix = 15.5 x 24 x 52cm Not much difference with the footprint. If I go with a bigger tank later....I have enough horsepower to handle it.

The Deltec is online! I love anything German. This thing is the best skimmer I’ve ever had. Whisper quiet too.

I’ll never run w/o a skimmer again. I’ve noticed a marked difference in tank health over the last few days. Numbers have improved and algae is dying off. Sandbed is starting to loose the yellow color and turn white again. This doesn’t mean I’m starving the tank. Trust me...my target numbers are being closely watched.

So here’s the 1st hour of wet skim:

Here’s a couple days of dry skim:

Here’s the bubble situation. Looks real nice:

And...the new Aquatic Specialist on the team that will oversee all the testing on this system: :biggrin1:

Oh man super cute baby...

Good choice on the skimmer - okay you don't see many people do this but I have some mesh on the skimmer intake so no chance in h*ll any snail can destroy my pump. The mesh is not fine so it's not getting dirty and clogging the intake of the skimmer and impact the performance. I keep few turbo snails in the sump man those guys keep the sump walls so nice and clean.

I'd recomme d the plastic gutter guard. The holes are small enough to keep snails out but big enough not to restrict flow.

I used onion bag mesh from the grocery store- it's plastic/holes are not too fine. Talk about ghetto rigged.:rofl:

Very similar to the pic.

I still need to do that to my overflow, but it’s been couple of weeks since my cleaner wrasse has gone over. I have egg crate blocking snails from going over. But I need to get that soon.

ALK just jumped hard from all the new coral. Time to tighten up. Gotta get dialed back in. :)

Not really that hard...I’ve only been fluctuating 0.02-0.03 daily and then went from 8.2 to 7.6 in about 24 hours.
