Good Afternoon, Moved to Houston last year and recently set up a Red Sea Reefer 200XL. Currently working on making this a mixed reef, have 2 clowns, a royal gramma, 2 cardinal fish, a blood red fire shrimp and a small clean up crew. Next project is dividing the sump area where my skimmer is to create a fuge for pods. Had freshwater fish as a kid and a 40 gallon breeder fowlr tank years ago. So glad there are so many great LFSs in the area.

Haha! Yep, I rank the humidity here in Houston right up there with Biloxi. Spent a few weeks there in the summer several years back for training and it was miserable. Never believed there could be a place near as hot or humid....and then we moved to Houston 🤣🤣

Welcome to Marsh!

Welcome!

So I noticed you mentioned that you had a fowlr tank before but this pic has corals in it. Is this your first go at corals?

Thanks and yes it is, i had a FOWLR tank in college for a few years. Wanted to get back into the hobby but I moved a lot while in the army for 10 years since moving here and deciding to stay made perfect sense to set up another tank. I kept this new tank just fish and rock for a few months while doing research on corals finding ones that I liked as well as their water parameters, light requirements / flow etc. So far have a small mushroom colony, an Australian torch, a small bubble coral, and 2 frags of reverse superman montipora. After a month everything seems to be doing really well. I’ve dosed with reef roids once per week, but keep a close eye on parameters (I’ve heard it can be a polluter) each week before doing a weekly 10% water change. Looking at the pics from when I first got them the corals are growing and doing well. Fish are great But lost the royal gramma, he was swimming and happy one night then the next morning was already upside down and gone on the sand bed. I can’t figure out what happened to him. I only had him for about a week and he was the last fish I added.

Keep your nitrates and phosphates in check and you’ll be fine on the corals.
