OK I have had water in tank now since 11-19-16. Been using the Red Sea Reef Mature kit

Temp 78.8
Salt 1.026
Phosphate 0.0 (Hanna Checker)
Alkalinity 180 = 10.08 (Hanna Checker)
N03 Nitrate 2 (Red Sea Test)
No2 Nitrite 0.1 (Red Sea Test)
NH3/NH4 Ammonia 0 (Red Sea Test)
Magnesium 1400ppm (Red Sea Test)
Calcium 410ppm (Red Sea Test)
PH 7.68

OK, so is anything out of wack ? Need to be doing something different ?

Alk is high and PH is low, seems a bit off. Not sure what is causing that, but it will need to be addressed.

I wouldn't worry to much about Alk. Many reefers keep it there or higher. Stable is key here. The PH is concerning. If your house is not well vented which is normal year round in houston you will have low PH. I don't understand exactly how, but the carbon dioxide content of the air makes a huge difference. If you can run your skimmer air intake line outside, your PH will rise. There are other methods but this is the easiest.

Yeah don't worry about your water parameters now...

With such great products as Dr. Tim's nitrifying bacteria you can add fish right away but follow bottle instructions. No need to wait a month....those days are gone. Some people add SPS corals a week after adding the bacteria.

Looking good. Throw you a couple fish in there and get some life in the tank. Start feeding them and you are good to go. Take things slow, very slow. I've always liked Diesel's quote....

If you think you are going slow, slow down some more.
when it comes to reefing. That Red Sea product looks interesting. I'd like to try it some day. I'm with RR-MAN though, Dr. Tim's One and Only has me spoiled. Brand new tank and 7 days later new fish can go in. Many of us use it with great success. At this point you need fish and to watch your ammonia, nitrate, & Nitrite levels.

Great Feed back, Thanks Well I did go back and look at PH I was getting the reading of the probe ( guess not best thing to do) Got the kit for testing the PH and it came back as a 8.6

That's good to hear. You really don't have to worry about pH right now though. Keep your parameters consistent and you will be ok.

This is good advice. To tell you the truth, I don't know what my PH is. I have ordered a probe so I can start to monitor it.

My pH has always been on the lower side. It's typicality around 7.6-7.8. I fought it for years then finally gave up and just kept it consistent. My corals have been much better off.

Adding fish first so you can get an idea of your nutrient loading and removal requirements is usually an easier way to start, but the reverse can work also. Try to get your fish load in and get them established. Makes things a lot easier.

OK got my first shipment of fish in to day. Got them from Exotic Marine Fish - Imports Houston (EMF-H). Let me say that Antonio did a great job in delivering them and helping me get them set up in the QT. Very impressed with the service he offered.

Looking good man! Spotted some SPS frags in there! If they don't make it don't worry, we'll let the tank mature a bit more then I'll replace what you lost.
