Hello all, new to hobby. Got a 29 gallon for a little over 2 months now. Just picked up a former member’s custom 90 gallon cube with Trigger System Ruby36S today. Need a little work on the stand to make wife happy. But anyways, a three days ago I was missing around with the rock placement and then noticed my black clown gobby was nowhere to be seen the next day. Thinking I just spoked him and he’s hiding, since he was skittish the first week I got him, I thought it was just his nature.

But then moving the 29 gallon tank and stand just now and I found his shriveled up body. Sad, he was a fun little guy to watch. And my son likes him too. R.I.P. little guy.

Agreed - I would never have a tank without a top. Even then it's not foolproof - I once had a wrasse jump out in the brief moment I lifted one side of the screen to throw some food in - but your chances are much better.

Sorry meant to include my tank has a top but there are still some gaps for the hob filter, skimmer, and auto feeder.

I do have lid. Found him in the back left corner on the ground. Possibly jumps out of the middle area. Custom cuts in the back piece isn’t great because I had a different light to at had a bigger clamp.

Yep, they can find their way through the smallest openings. On one tank I had one corner of the top raised just enough to allow a couple cords through, and a jawfish managed to jump through it. In that same tank, I had a firefish die on the cross brace of the tank, between that and the glass top. The space was no larger than the diameter of the fish, but somehow it was able to get there but not wiggle out if it.

I have a screen lid on mine. After spending 2 weeks nursing a yasha goby back to health (some kind of injury plus infection) I released it into the main tank only for it to spook, jump into the net, and get caught by the gills.

Found it hanging dried up the next morning.
