New to MARSH and SW / Reef - Cycling Question (1 Viewer)

Excited to be here and for the great community.

Quick overview, 40b with 20L sump; set up with live sand and 35# of live rock.

Set up tank on Wednesday 9/27 - using SeaChem Stability. Following Stability dosing instructions for first 5 days.

Test results with API SW Master
Days 1-4: Ammmonia, Nitrite, Nitrates all 0
Day 5: No test
Day 6: Ammonia, Nitrite 0; Nitrates 10ppm

I followed LFS guidance on using Stability and now after reading more wish I had not. I don't want an inadequate cycle but not sure the best way to proceed.

My questions are:
1) Should I stop Stability and proceed with fish food method for cycling?
2) Continue with Stability for next 2 days and keep an eye on it?

Regardless, I will not be adding anything soon and I will continue to monitor to see how the cycle balances out.

Just a twisted half and rushed cycle compared to a more typical 2-4 weeks.

I am not a proponent of chemicals other than ammonia to start up the tank. Typically they are bacteria in a bottle. If you aren't happy with it, stop using it. Throw in enough ammonia to bring it up to 2 ppm. Then test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Once you can dose ammonia and a day later get 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites with some nitrates, your initial cycle is complete.

I usually just toss a shrimp in a new tank for a few days to kick start the process. Then ghost feed the tank every few days to feed the growing bacterial colony. If i feel the need to speed things up I'll add Bio-Spira at the start up of a tank. I will still continue the ghost feeding until the I have observed the three peaks of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates before I add the inverts.
