The thing is that your agent is not going to be the one who appraisers your loss. They sell you the policy but that’s about it. Animals are not covered under a home owners policy unless you get a rider and that’s usually only for businesses and are very costly. If they cover your claim then you are truly blessed and should spread the word.
Yeah she promised me the world, luckily I won't need to file a claim for any loss of life. I did however file a claim last week because I left my rodi water on and flooded my neighbor downstairs. Not my brightest moment

Well what you are going through is not the worst. I have not gone through one but in the late 90's there was a bad one in extreme north east U.S..South .Eastern Ontario and South West Quebec. It is called an ice storm. It is when you get a heavy rain then it slowly turns to ice. And lots of ice. Power lines and those big steel power transmission towers come tumbling down. It is a real mess with loss of power as well.
People have died dude. So yeah it is the worst.

We don't need weather phenomena described to us, although we Texans would sure appreciate an explanation for why public utilities have failed the people during our most vulnerable time.

I too have lived in the north; I too have trudged to school in the middle of a blizzard because a little snow doesn't make northerners flinch. But I - and everyone including local infrastructure - was prepared for the ice.

Houston rarely ever gets freezing temperatures, never mind a prolonged hard freeze with ice that nobody know how to drive in. We were told to expect planned rolling outages. NOBODY expected for the power infrastructure to just... fail. Please have some empathy and imagine if:
1) the weather were abnormally freezing and
2) your power went out unexpectedly with zero updates on when it's coming back and
3) cell service / internet is spotty or nonexistent so you have no way of finding out how to cope and
4) you don't have a fireplace or if you do, you don't know how to use it, because after all this is Houston and
5) you have exotic animals reliant on powered enclosures, on top of young children and/or at risk family members to take care of in your 40 degree home.

People have died because no one (especially our government) was prepared for the accumulation of all these factors, so yeah it was pretty bad.

My heart is breaking and prayers go out to all fellow reefers experiencing losses at this time. Watching this thread is like watching the news in a war-torn country... so many casualties 😞 I know it’s disheartening and may not be the right time, but try to think of it as an opportunity to start anew... To do that “thing” you always wanted to do with your tank but couldn’t, to get that coral/fish you always wanted but couldn’t... Keep your heads held high fellow reefers!!! We’ve gained experience now in this 100 yr freeze that will only make us stronger and more knowledgeable for the years to come! Now, let’s make like the ocean and regenerate some reefs in this city!!! #houstonstrong

Hey Everyone

I can also volunteer my tank / brute trash cans if anyone needs it. I am in 77546 zip.

I also have about 30 gallons of NSW...if anyone needs it.

Thanks to members here recommending to get generators ready my tank has made it so far.

Power is back on since last night, and I have enough gas for another 24hrs and that's if I cant refill any containers.

My whole tank frozen. Was without power for 3 days. Tried everything and lost it all. I turned the lights and I see the green candy canes and frogspawn still very much green. I see a couple that still have its color just the water so cold. I feel in my heart they might survive just don’t have the means. Anyone that wants them maybe you can give them life. :( lost my 9yr old fish the very first fish I got and all gone.

My power has been out going on 80 hrs. Not even a 5 min tease of warm heat. They cut the water for the last 2 days now. League City...particularly my area is getting screwed for some reason. Lights on all around us 360 degrees for last 3 nights. Some have stayed on and some on/off on/off. This is the craziest crap ever. Apparently something is wrong in my specific area. We have a big H-E-B and Kroger right here by South Shore Harbor and they had to throw away food.

Ah yes the good old "this storm is nothing, you Texans can't handle cold weather unlike us northerners".

What a way for the community to pull together. So much sadness for the monumental individual and collective losses. I had genny up and running for most of the time until yesterday morning when it just died on me. The first night with no power i had three heaters going and it stopped the drop but still not enough juice to raise temps. I think it dropped to 72. then I wrapped it and that helped stabilize and temps with the 3 heaters actually started recovering. Power came back and forth all day yesterday in 3-4 hour increments. and the house heat maintained around 70. Anyways, long story short, the power is back sort of steady but I take nothing for granted since it could go away again at any second and we still have a few days to go. Good luck to all that made it this far and condolences to those who have taken losses.

Stay Houston Strong everyone !!!

Edit: Special shout out to @Cody for truly being a beacon of hope for some relatively hopeless situations and giving excellent advice. Thank you.

I used to live in buffalo and yes, winter there is unrivaled yet we had snowmobiles, heaters and gear that made it as smooth as possible. We also knew how to handle freezing pipes and space heaters etc. so no one drags their propane grill inside to warm the house. Just like here we can deal with heat like no one else. Not really just comparison when you compare extreme weather in a place that is totally set up for vs. a place that is not all prepared.

Just got word we’re going to have power tonight at 5:00pm.

I have a Marriott room by the house so I can go back and fourth.

Tonight should be the last extremely cold night. It’s all downhill from here.

Gotta build a stand and plumb the new tank very soon. Come on warm weather!
