Dammit. Just got the tank to temp and the power goes back out. Hope it is just a short time.
Wrap the tank... I used a sleeping bagDammit. Just got the tank to temp and the power goes back out. Hope it is just a short time.
How long was your power off?Wrap the tank... I used a sleeping bag
My brother was saying that I could very well do that. I’d have to check with my hone insurance though.Has anyone ever tried to file tank loses with home owners insurance? I am VERY lucky and will have to make a claim for flooring tiles that popped and cracked and thought about putting my tank loses on the claim as well.

quite a while. My house temp dropped from 70 to 59 but the tank only lost 1.5 degrees. (I also had the glass tops on and partially covered the sump)How long was your power off?
Yeah, Monday night was rough... I had the generator ready for the heaters.
The thing is that your agent is not going to be the one who appraisers your loss. They sell you the policy but that’s about it. Animals are not covered under a home owners policy unless you get a rider and that’s usually only for businesses and are very costly. If they cover your claim then you are truly blessed and should spread the word.Yeah my agent had put them down as property instead of pets or animals. So I guess you can find some loop holes here and there.

“Business policy” meaning a tank in an office? Because if you are in the business of selling fish/coral (or breeding dogs, cats, cattle, or anything else), you can absolutely get coverage for loss of livestock.Business policy doesn’t cover livestock lol. I made my agent look high and low. No one covers it.

Right. Just like anything else, I’m sure there’s some part of the industry that will cover animals, but it’s going to cost a LOT! (And it is completely separate from your homeowners policy)The thing is that your agent is not going to be the one who appraisers your loss. They sell you the policy but that’s about it. Then, no, that won’t be covered any more than if you decided to have an office pet.I need to incorporate my tanks then. Yes business policy as in within an office.

Edit: after looking into this online, the only real “pet insurance“ I can find is for live pets’ veterinary bills, etc - and one or two do seem to cover fish (like one specific fish, not your whole tank). Other than that, you’d be looking for pet life insurance, which mostly seems to cover pet funeral costs, not replacement.Right. I’m sorry, but this is not a helpful comment. Maybe you were trying to cheer us up by pointing out that others have more serious problems, but the degree of misery is not the issue.Well what you are going through is not the worst. I have not gone through one but in the late 90's there was a bad one in extreme north east U.S..South .Eastern Ontario and South West Quebec. It is called an ice storm. It is when you get a heavy rain then it slowly turns to ice. And lots of ice. Power lines and those big steel power transmission towers come tumbling down. It is a real mess with loss of power as well.
I moved to Houston from Boston, i know what it’s like dealing with this type of natural disaster. a few years ago we dealt with a historic blizzard thst accumulated over 8 feet of snow. But it’s a whole different situation down here as none of the infrastructure was built for this type of weather. With that being said, not a very helpful comment as there are so many people struggling... I don’t have good recommendation as i’m fairly new to the hobby, can only report my own situation.Well what you are going through is not the worst.
