No skimmer for 3.5 mo- I think it’s time. (1 Viewer)

What size tank is it going in?
After using several different brands, I keep coming back to my Tunze skimmers. They're the best imo.

I just got an Octo eSsence S-130. I'm pretty impressed with the build quality so far, and it's pretty darn quiet.
I looked the Nyos Quantum 120, Deltec 600ix as well. The S-130 had all the features I wanted at the best price, so I went that way.
I personally don't understand why you'd want a skimmer with a DC pump, so I only shopped for those that came with AC pumps.

I think the Nyos is a bulletproof beast. Great build quality.

Reef octopus has consistently sold more skimmers than about anybody. They seem to do pretty well.

What do you dislike about the DC pump driven skimmers?

I don't see the need for the extra complexity & controller. I know I'm going to want the pump running 100%, pulling as much air as possible, or I'm going to want it off. I just want a plug, not the controller and all the other junk that could possibly fail....

What I really liked about the Deltec & the Octo that I got is the fact that you can get to the pump for cleaning without undoing screws. The easier it is to get apart and the less stuff there is to break, the more I'm going to clean it... is my thought process, anyway.

That’s definitely a plus.

You clean your skimmer? You mean the body or the pump?

If I'm taking the pump out, the body's going to get some action as well. :)
I guess it depends on the skimmer. I've always made mine and made the pump removable. I don't think I've cleaned an actually skimmer body while in use but once, twice tops.

I like to clean out the junk from calcifying creatures and any corralline algae that’s deposited in there... it can show up quick if you have light bleed from a fuge. It’s a decent argument for opaque skimmer bodies, IMO.

How's the Deltec North American customer service now - Back in 2010-2011 I had few Deltec gadgets - it was very difficult to get parts for skimmer/calcium reactor from the North America Distributor. Their skimmers are awesome though - works very well at almost any water level and I had no complaints about their calcium reactors.
