Recently came across Nualgi and supposedly, it's suppose to clear up algae issues. Never heard of this before, but I'm willing to give their free trial a try. Has anyone tried this stuff yet?

If anyone has algae issues and wants to give it a try, all you have to do is message their facebook account with your tank size, address, and picture of your aquarium. Here's the FAQs page https://www.facebook.com/notes/nualgi-aquarium/frequently-asked-questions/346227545518407

WhySoDavid, Thanks for mentioning us. What type of algae problems are you having with your tank?

I had a little bit of hair algae, but since using the product, I've had a noticeable algae reduction on my glass. I would recommend trying the product, nothing negative to say about it.

I'm interested in what this stuff is also.

Read the website but do not know enough about biology to verify anything.

Anyone else use it??

Wish I new more about how it works, but unfortunately I don't. I just took a risk and tried it out. Not sure why it took 4 weeks until this was posted, but I have been using it for about 3 weeks now. Noticed algae die off, and nothing has shown any negative effects. I have lots of lps, some sps, couple anemones, a clam, snails, shrimps, you name it, and they all seem to be doing fine. Like I mentioned, I have to clean off the glass less often and my sand is as algae free as its been in a very long time. Just my experience.

That exact reply is why people with money tied up into their tanks WILL NOT just throw something in without knowing everything about it. BTW not bashing on you, just making sure everyone knows how important it is to know exactly what's going in the tank. 10% water changes every few days would render most chemicals on the market useless.

Also not bashing, and not speaking to this product as I am unfamiliar with it, but I try to stick with what Fenner and Copps said this weekend, "don't put anything in you can't test for." On my part it's cheapness, I paid the money for purple up when first in the hobby and some other similar things and there's an element of the snake oil in some of them.

I also try to avoid the "fat loss" supplements out there. If someone had a pill that made you skinny, big pharma would charge $100 a pill for it (think phen-fen). For the tank though, many times it might be your good maintenance and husbandry and your wasting your money or at worst, it could adversely affect things.

Yup, not just throwing anything in my tank from a unknown company. I would like some of this explained in "layman's terms"

Yup, not taking any comments in a negative way. I started this thread for the exact same reason, I wanted to see if anyone knew more about it before trying it. Then a friend of mine with REALLY bad algae problems used it as a last resort and the effects were pretty amazing (wish I had pictures). I'm not trying to force anyone into using this, just wanted to help answer some questions I originally was worried about in case someone with bad algae problems ran across this and wanted to try it out. I knew it was a risk from the start, but I don't know enough about biology to understand everything that I put in my tank. If a product gets alot of good reviews, I'll try it out. Same reasons I tried Dr Tim's one and only, and AcroPower. Was happy with both of those as well.

Those two are proven, well atleast Dr Tims. I'm also using acropower and can't notice too much difference from Fuel, but time will tell. So far SPS tank loves it.

It's interesting but I saw it contained silicates and copper in small concentrations. Don't think I'd want that no matter how small the concentration is. Copper will bind to the silicone in the aquariums which can then be toxic for corals. Hopefully the Nualgi( ...is that pronounced New Algae?) will chime in.

BigRick, we understand your concern regarding copper. According to University of Florida research, recommended Cu2+ concentrations of 0.15–0.20 mg/L, free copper is toxic to a number of organisms that are pathogens of fish. Some species of fish are highly sensitive to copper and will die even at concentrations below therapeutic levels (i.e., less than 0.15 mg/L free copper). Copper concentration in Nualgi is at 0.0005mg per L which is further diluted in the tank by a factor of 100 dosing 1ml in 30 gallons.Furthermore, Nualgi is a nano scale formulation. As indicated elsewhere in this FAQ, nano particles have different properties to coarse particles. This small amount of copper is required for the diatom bloom and is considered safe for aquatic life. Two of our trialists mistakenly dosed the entire 12 week dose at once. No impact was seen on the aquatic life in their tank.
Because of its nanosize, Nualgi is able to pervade very small spaces in the subsurface and remain suspended in water. This allows particles to travel farther and dissipate quicker than coarse particles thereby increasing the bioavailability of the nutrients for easy absorption. The iron and other micronutrients in nano form cannot precipitate out or gel in the water as it happens when they are added directly as salts. Please check out the FAQ section on our website for more info.

It's not the fish I worry about copper, it's the corals.

If you have time, check out some of the videos that have been posted on Youtube to view the impact that Nualgi Aquarium has had on corals.

Any Links?

Link us to a Marine aquarium, before & after. I just spent 20 minutes trying to find that & all I could find was before & mostly fresh water.
