Pumps - depends on the level of control you want. if you want 0-10v control then you'll need to make a cable or buy an adaptor. If you want just simple on and off, then you can get away with connecting the power supply to the controller power strip

all the modules are daisy chained like you said. Each one is technically its own controller, so if one component fails, the other one takes over. You just lose funtionality of whatever module that failed.
easy way to have pump control for feed mode is to switch over to hydros approved pumps or just connect the pumps to the controller power strip.
