He posted on Facebook yesterday that he’s finally back home. I’m very glad to hear it! He was definitely in a tough spot, from what I understand.

Yeah the pics and stuff didn't look great and glad he's doing better as well. Hospital bill sounds rough though and he is selling some stuff to pay for it. High end fishing gear and the like from his other hobbies if anyone is looking for that kind of stuff and there is talk of a go fund me. Hopefully they put together a plan for others to help out since I don't do much fishing these days lol.

One good thing in the state of Texas medical bills cannot affect your credit score... just send them a little each month for good faith

Tell that to the credit card companies and the mortgage brokers. If it shows as a collection and past due you bet you ********* it affects your credit score
It's not easy but I'll snap a pic of the bill that was passed that I sign before surgery every week. Ofcourse all CC and Mortg want their money but can only do what state law allows. Now they hassle the ship out of you but they themselves cannot affect your. Credit score. Has to be over a certain limit.

So I guess my mortgage broker was wrong when a bill for $150 went to collections that I never received and the underwriters wanted to pull out when I refinanced last year. Just speaking from personal experience. That one medical collections dropped my credit score from 720 to 670 and I had to delay closing a month to get that taken care. So again yes it effects your mortgage and credit scores

Rick, I'm very familiar with the bill you are referring to, and it only protects you in the case of EMERGENCY OUT OF NETWORK charges. See below:

"The law requires the exclusion of medical debt from a patient’s credit report in limited circumstances: if the patient had health coverage at the time of the health care service and if the collection account is related to billing for an outstanding balance—not including a copayment, deductible or coinsurance—owed to an out-of-network emergency care or out-of-network facility-based provider."
