Here is the link to a Google Spreadsheet I started:

P.I.F. Spreadsheet

I'm thinking maybe those of us participating should put a P.I.F. in our sig-line with. I would make it but I forgot how...

Its easy to edit, when you pass something along to someone else you would naturally place their name in the next column and to keep it from getting overcrowded place a space between the names of the people you shared with as well as additional spaces between your name and those of the people below you. How do you do this you ask. Its simple, just click on the number of the row to highlight the entire row and then right-click and click add 1 space above or add 1 space below. Kinda like making a family tree for your coral! And I made sure to make it editable by anyone with the link!

To make a new page just click the + sign at the bottom of the page and right click it to rename it to whatever your name is + the name of the coral.

Nice. But we need to think a little further down the road. The way that spreadsheet is currently setup, with every generation, the number of rows taken increases exponentially. If Gabe was to provide a frag that reached it's 3rd generation. That's 4 rows, what if he provides a 2nd frag, then his first one reaches it's 3rd generation? The 2nd frag is pushed down 4 more rows. Etc etc.

I think it should be set up more like a tree. Times like this I wish I was a programmer lol.

In the meantime, it is something that can get us started. Right?

Oh yea..... Sorry if that sounded like I was against the spreadsheet.

I always tend to think too far ahead. Sorry guys. The only problem I see upcoming is the number of tabs. If things go good, I would like to donate 2 different Sps. I could imagine, if participation keeps up, that'll be a lot of tabs lol.

I'm just throwing ideas around. Sorry if I keep sounding like mr negative.

I agree with you too soymilk, but its a start and a way to keep track until someone smarter than me makes something better! No worries, Im always open to POSITIVE/CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

We could each have a tab and our frag lines could stay documented from the original donation into PIF. That way we could easily track everything

There is a separate tab for each original coral named after the originator and coral type

My tank is fairly new (almost 2 months) but I was thinking about joining this also. While thinking about it I also came up with a way to track the lineage of each frag. I use PowerPoint quite a bit to create family tree type charts. It's extremely easy since it draws the tree for you. All you have to do is enter the txt. I'm not sure how we could implement it online so everyone could modify it though. It would most likely have to be done by one person. Just a thought though. Here's a quick one I did in like 3 minutes. Now that I see the online spreadsheet. That may be easiest. It is also easy to get messed up with everyone being able to access it. Each slide can be a mother colony like in the spreadsheet. Then a presentation could be made and posted.

AWESOME! Does google supports this function as well? That way everyone would have access and could change it when needed. I know they have one called Presentation but can you do the TREE in it?

Well I got it up in Google Docs. Not sure how to edit though. Let me test this link. Someone else can click the link and see if they can edit also.

Edit: Hmmm it looks like I can download the file to edit but I can't edit right there in Google docs. I may be doing something wrong. This is the first time I've used Google docs. LOL

I figured out a way to create a chart like this in Google Docs, but we have to format the data a little differently. The chart is designed to be an org chart, but it works.

Take a look at the "Lesd Tubs Mystic Blue" tab in the spreadsheet to see how to format the data. Then you just click on the "chart" button in google docs and choose the org chart. It automatically recognizes the data if formatted like mine.

I couldn't figure out how to edit it, I wanted to remove myself from one of the PIF where I am listed but I didn't receive it.

Great little thing yall have going here.. I'd heard about PIF in other reef clubs on different forums, very cool to see there's one in Houston! I'm new to the site and will be officially joining soon (as soon I get paid lol). But I'd definitely be willing to contribute to the cause!
