So in search of property insurance for a new home and got an insane quote from progressive. I know there are many factors figuring out premiums but trust me progressive was 50% higher. So if you got progressive insurance shop around you are losing hundreds a year if not thousands. Just trying to help fellow reefers.

This is a great way to go but it doesn't hurt to look around as well. My wife works for an independent agency and shopped ours through many brokers. Allstate ended up being the cheapest even though she works for a competitor.

Interesting - Allstate quotes have always been sky high for me, and when I got my Mazda RX-7, they would not insure it at any price. I guess they figure I must be a wild man. I have been with State Farm forever, except my classic car is with Hagerty. The only problem with Hagerty is they specifically exclude damage caused by a nuclear explosion, so hopefully we won't have World War III.

Same here, Allstate was the best value for me. Plus it was hard to get quotes because I have Rottweilers. Several agencies couldn't even give me a quote because of them.

Oh wow so much discrimination against large guard dogs-I guess you can't blame them it's a much bigger liability

I'm reconsidering getting a cane corso puppy :-(

I had horrible experience with Allstate home insurance. They're known to have the strictest guidelines on what and when to pay out.

No kidding-they take your monies for decades and then one incident and they deny a claim or pay a portion of it.
No wonder the insurance industry is the wealthiest

Yep, we had Allstate for years. Got tired of the constant rate increases and finally switched and saved tons.

I've always heard horror stories with Allstate when it comes to claims. Me, my sister, and my parents have had Nationwide for our three homes and all our vehicles for going on 20 years each. Through many home owner claims, and auto claims they have been an absolute dream to work with. I've had 4-5 home owner claims from hail damage roof to busted pipe in wall requiring 1/2 my bathroom needing remodeled. Sister had a 70' pine tree crash right through the middle of their house during a hurricane. Water poured in for 3 days before the rain let up. Nationwide was always there for us in a minutes notice. They would have to jack my rates up pretty dang high before I'd ever consider leaving them for a cheaper company. You get what you pay for that's for sure.

No insurance covers terrorism or an act of war, unless it specifically states it. If anyone has questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Independent agents are a good way to go. They cap shop 30 or 60 companies and do that leg work for you.

We use Homeowners of America Insurance. A few storms ago our house was hit by lightning, all our electronics were fried. They came out and took our list of property damaged and our quotes on replacing everything. A week later sent us a check to get us started replacing items while they processed everything. A couple weeks later they had everything complete and approved and sent the last check of over $50,000 to cover replacing everything. Pretty happy with them [emoji38]

Glad you are happy with your company, but insurance rates can vary widely across town. Montgomery and Pearland will vary quite a bit. Some companies price themselves into certain areas. The southern side of town is considered a coastal market. Many companies do not want to take the risk of a major hurricane coming through and putting them under. It is always best to find someone that can run you through quotes of a basket full of providers. That same person should know which ones are good with claims, like your companies(worth paying a bit more for), and which companies are bargain basement price, but you need to sue them to get a claim check. On that note, I hope you got an Apex gold out of the deal haha :)

Germania is who we use. Have thought about reshopping around but with an older home rates go up and now they are all I believe charging extra if your roof is over 10 years old!

I think we did state farm. I am not 100% tho. It's best to have an independent agent run your numbers. They might screen 60 carriers and find the best price. They will also be comparing apples to apples. If insurance is a different price, there is usually a reason. It might have one feature or leave our another. The right agent can help navigate that.
