This came up in another thread so thought I would demonstrate...like I said I mess up stuff all they time...

Heat Method

I want to re-use my union but this darn elbow is glued to it

eblow removed but pvc pipe remains...

tools

So all you really do is heat the pipe up - do this in a WELL ventilated area as the process liberates chlorine gas

didn't take a pic of me blowing hot air on fitting :(

and pipe is soft enough after about 5 minutes of heating...

and done...

Once I have the part out, I champfer the edge of the fitting, then sand down any rough spots and goudges on the inside.

It wont win any beauty contests...but it is ready for re-use...

On pieces that I re-use I like to use a heavy bodied pvc cement as some of the interference fit is gone..

Up Next PVC reaming tool...

here is the one I have.. I have to say this one in particular IMO removes this a little too much of the socket in addition to the pipe..

I have done this with a confectioners torch as well. It is not as safe and certainly can ignite the pvc but it made for quick work. Steve's method is by far safer. Heat guns are cheaper than new fittings in some cases.

FYI I was talking to a person at a paint store once they said they quit buying heat guns the break quickly they found a hairdryer last longer. Just make sure it is not one of those crazy expensive ones some people have. LOL

not sure a hair dryer would get hot enough for this...or you would need to leave the drier on it a long time.. might work for removing paint but I question that..
