Hey hey i can’t even keep a simple stylo alive 😂😭! I’ve got 2 acros that aren’t doing that great. But I do have 1 tabling acro that is still going strong. I think my tank is older than y’all’s(@Cody and @Reefahholic) I got water in it late December 2018. Idk I can’t remember when y’all setup y’all tanks.

I'd play if we're going to do a grow out contest.... I've got a blue digi that I literally tossed into my tank & its a full grown colony now & a GE Purple Orchid that grows like a weed.

I can look at the base of most Acro colonies and tell you if it was transplanted or grown. Just like a lot of Australia tanks you see have transplanted colonies because they’re next to the Great Barrier Reef. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Can’t fool me. Sorry.

It looks pretty solid to me.

I am considering it over my AP700. The one thing holding me back thus far is the mounting solution. It's a single arm mount, and if I was doing two of them, that'd be fine. Since my tank is 4ft wide, and I'm planning a mixed LPS / SPS (mostly LPS) I want to get away with only one and the overflow is right in the center. 4ft wide tank, mix of LPS/SPS is the plan, but more LPS, I want to get away with only one. I guess I could do two xr15's

What's everyone's thought on the Pro vs Blue?

I would resist the urge to run out and buy these G5’s. They haven’t been tested yet. Wait for people to do real world reviews. Then invest if they’re legit. Being patient will pay off. All these sponsored YouTuber’s and those trying to make a name for themselves will run out and buy the G5’s instantly to try and get the 1st reviews out there On YouTube. Both of the current videos (Jake A. and BRS) are directly tied in with EcoTech and those videos were promotional videos for EcoTech Marine and they will be compensated for doing them in some way.

Orphek has to stay competitive in this market and will feed off anything that EcoTech has done. IMO, Orphek’s are currently growing corals better than Radions. They really have a good LED fixture and their customer service seems to be getting better and better. Their next upgrade will be epic. Did you know that I could put “only one” Orphek Atlantik V4 (Gen 2) over my 75/G and it will light the entire tank no problem for only $1,100. Yet two G5’s will cost me $1,680, but I’d probably need 3 which would be $2,520. That’s $1420 more I’d have to pay.

I’m not telling anybody how to spend their money, but what I’m saying is that it might be very wise to hold out for a little bit and see what happens in the very near future if you’re into LED’s.

This tank below was grown under Orphek’s. No Calcium Reactor. Only dosing BRS 2-part, and Red Sea products.

I'd go with reefaholic here. The orpheks are great so far! I love that they don't splash the entire living room blinding my wife and I while we hang out. The acros seem to love it too!! I can't speak with respect to uptake though because I think it's relatively low right now through battling Dino's. Let that stabilize and let's see in the long term.

You can see what the guy above has accomplished longterm. You can go look at all his videos. He has documented his journey well and you’ll see that he had the Orphek’s growing those colonies. He had the old fixtures then updated to the Gen 2’s.

@Tenny I don't think you can get away with a 1 G4 or 1 G5 on a 4ft tank. I have 3 G4s on my 4' tank but I have mostly SPS.
1 G5 isn’t enough light. You gonna need two minimal and if you want to do it right...3-4.

If I was doing SPS only I would agree, but I work corals into different regions. Like rock structure directly under the lights has the high light demand corals like SPS, while the LPS and other low demand corals on the rock structures to the side.

I have no worries that this AP700 will be plenty for the scenario above. Of course I don't have a XR30 G5, but I'd assume it's comparable to the AP700.

If your gonna do LPS only on the outter edges then 100 PAR will get it done. I’d still buy 1 Orphek before 1 G5.

Everyone knows we buy equipment for looks and not purpose, that being said the Radions look cooler! Just saying. :)

You can debate lights until the cows come home, best is the t5/LED combo. Don't buy a light for the gimmicks, thunder/lightning, ability to change the colors whenever, etc. Once you buy lights, all of them are basically set it & forget it. ALL of these lights work, buy which ever ones you like the best. Radion, Atlantik, black box etc.
