There is a way to DIY those moonlights with the LEDs for much less than those. I'd love to find the plans again and put a couple together.

i use the 3 ft powercompact/moonlite fixture

and the 4 moonlights that are built in make the tank look really nice at night.

I use 2 7watt light bulbs in my 58g octogon.

Back when I put it together I read that the reef does not see the red spectrum level. The red color doesn't seem to bother any fish as everyone goes to sleep when the MH goes off for the night.

I love the way the red looks on the reef and you can see alot come out at night with them.

I use the led lights that Wal-Mart has in the aquarium section. They have them in different colors but I use the blue and it works nice. They had them on clearance when I got them and they were $14 for the power supply with 2 lights and $5 for each additional light.

In my oppinion the pictures shown on reefcentral are to bright........you want just a hint of light just like the moon is naturaly.......not a bright spot in your tank.

you could face the light up into the reflector so it diffuses the light and is not so intense

wonder if the moon light will be turned on every night or turned on according to the natural moon cycle which also affects the tidal activities.. hence i'm afraid the artificial moon lights (turned on and off daily) may not help in the natural spawning of your corals :?

:D Don't you think you may be, just maybe over thinking this? :D

With all due respect, I got a chuckle out of that, thanks.
