Not the best picture but you get the idea. This is an adaptive reef controller board. This is the inside. It has a cover that will hide this mess. I am pleased I got all the Radion ballasts in here. Had to remove one of the shelves.

Still hoping to mount a few controllers on the front panel.

You working on a stocking list already?

Just the half dead stuff.

Next product announcement from ecotech should start out with, “this is how we fixed connectivity with all our products. Since we are up here, sorry about the reef link, glad Mobius was sooo much better. “

Ok. The Radions and I have made up, had to be a little persistent updating everything to work with the new chips.

I’m always a bit reluctant to post my diy because I’ve seen the “projects” on R2R and it’s never been my strength. Ok caveats thrown out.

I’m seeing a bit more crooked than I saw when I was doing it, sigh noted for future work.

Apex is not situated yet.

Ok, I have a question that is purely curiosity and education for myself. What is your mindset behind having the Ink Bird monitor the temperature and control your heater as opposed to having the Apex do it? Curious! And BTW, I love Ink Bird controllers. I have 3 of them controlling freezers that have been turned into a kegerator and cold homebrew storage as well as a refrigerator to serve as a fermentation chamber. They're awesome!

I don't currently see anything plugged into the apex.

If you heater doesn't have it's own thermostat (some don't) Terrance (with Neptune Systems) recommended not using their controller as the only failsafe. You can and should use the Ink Bird as an additional failsafe in conjunction with the Apex. You would want to set it about 1 degree higher than what your Apex is programmed so it will be on when the Apex tells it to be on, but if the Apex fails, then the ink bird will catch it and possibly keep the heater from nuking your tank.

Just redundancy or failsafe; heaters have had a bad reputation in the hobby for years.

The eb832 will be populated soon. It’s really frustrating slow going with all the cords under there.

But isn't this what the alarms are set up for? I have 2 heaters on my main tank, 1 with a stat & 1 on the apex. If for some reason the temp gets too high, I get an email & I can turn both off, in case one was stuck on. Is the fear the Apex temp sensor will fail?

as far as heaters are concerned, lets go with that almost all heaters sold today have built in thermometers or controllers of some kind that would be the first failsafe. The most common failure mode for heaters, loosing accuracy or getting "stuck" in one position or another, is that users set the +/- range too tight. the tighter the range, the more often it cycles the greater the chance that the unit will fail. Any controller (inkird or apex etc.) can act as a secondary failsafe and take over so if the heater gets stuck in the on position for instance, instead of cooking your tank, the additional failsafe will cut juice to heater turning it off. I believe the generally accepted range of deviation is +/- 1 degree. Inkbird is a very simple to use and effective tool to provide that second layer of redundancy when you don't have a full controller in use, don't want to tie up expensive outlets for a simple heater or simply don't want the heating function tied to the controller in case of controller failure.

that's the way I have always understood that anyways.

love the pump bro.. look s pretty fancy. let us know what you like/don't like once you get it dialed in.

Finally ready for livestock, had a bit of a unexpected mini cycle in the last few weeks. I need my tangs, cuc.....media filters online. The hair algae really exploded.

Really sold on this Blue Platinum pump. They need a rebrand and some advertisement to get the word out. I paid $225 for a 3k pump. It’s competition is the L2 $475 and the varios 8 $425 Sicce SDC 9 $399.

Still figuring out how to distribute water to refuge, media, Ca rx. The small manifold may work.

The make up tank is so nice(star fire etc) I hate to ditch it but there’s no lid, its shape isn’t ideal to maximize stand space.

Have you received the pump already? If so, how does it feel and is it silent? Can’t wait to receive mine. Mine shipped today with my Calcium Reactor.

5 year Warranty! Can’t go wrong...

Yes. I like the rubberized parts and god bless them for permanently attaching the rubber feet. It’s pretty quiet for a 3k pump. Not as quiet as my BK but for sure more quiet than the Sicce.

Controller is decent. Some of the fittings here aren’t the best but nothing you’d miss. It does some of the fancy flow patterns that are kind of lost on me.

The warranty is great but I’m taking it with a grain of salt till I see how long they are around. There just aren’t a lot of info or users stateside anyway (among the reefing community anyway).

I’m happy with it.
