Hello, everyone. I’m looking to upgrade from single pane windows to double pane windows to help make my home more energy efficient and comfortable. Have any of y’all upgraded your homes? Which company did you use? How much did it cost per window?

Yes, do u need me to send all that info again? Did you lose it? 🤷🏻‍♂️
Send it twice again, please.

No one else has upgraded their windows recently? I already called to get an estimate from Allied Siding and Windows based off of Gregg’s recommendation, but I’m looking for two more.

Double panes are not cheap. Like 500-2k per window depending on size if it’s a sunny side of the house that’s heating up I would suggest solar screens first before switching out windows
When I said double pane I mean the ones that have two pieces of gas with gas in between. The are normally just a few hundred each. Gregg got his done for $363 each out the door.

Do you plan on replacing your siding any time soon? If you do you may want to get both done at the same time to get a package job. Otherwise I would look for a quality window in your budget and reach out to the manufacturer for a recommended installer. Best window in the world does you no good if it is not installed properly and the wall below it rots out.

Since you seem to like to build stuff, if you do not already watch this guys videos you should.

He did a video 2 weeks ago with a distributor about windows.

Is energy efficiency the only reason or are you wanting prettier windows? I ask because you will see more impact to your electric bill with more attic insulation or a more efficient AC unit. My electric bill was cut almost in half when I changed from the builders grade 10 seer to a 14 seer AC unit.

Oh I’m switching from a 6-9 seer (it was about 9 seer 24 years ago when the unit was installed but these things degrade with that long of time) to a 14 seer this weekend. And yes, energy efficiency, but also comfort. The back of my house is mostly windows and you can put your hands near them and feel the heat on the windows. It’s bad.

The siding is in good condition so I don’t expect to change that soon, especially with the cost of materials these days.

Feeling the heat, a low-e film will knock that down. Double pane will help with cost of cooling a little, and with noise. If you put your hand near the window, feel the heat, and put a sheet of paper in the way and the heat goes away immediately, that heat is radiated heat and low-e film will stop that, double pane will not unless it is low-e.

If you have not already ordered the A.C. I would recommend looking at a Mitsubishi vrf.

Noise is also an issue too. There’s a road behind my house and I am constantly getting turned on by those cool/sexy trucks and cars with way over the top exhausts. I don’t see how they fit all those women in their vehicles. That sound is just too sexy to resist…./s

For sound reduction you may want to get swing or fixed instead of lift windows. Can't do all fixed in a room, need that egress. Swing tend to have better air seal and an air leak is a sound leak. Also, they make specific sound deadening windows. As far as I know they are just built a bit heavier so less sound makes it through.

So have you had new windows installed yourself?

Appt I used to live in I got the landlord to swap out the single pane ones with double. Was a one day thing and I was not a fan of the installation, but there were no obvious leaks and if there were it would not have been me paying to fix. lol. I think it was window world or something like that.

House i bought needs new siding though, and I am pondering getting new windows when I do that. Got double pane ones now, but they are the vinyl ones everyone gets due to cost, but tend to have bad seals and not last all that long.

These windows in our new house are double-paned and are far better for efficiency and noise. It is still a window but not near as bad as our old house and those builder's grade single pane windows. I read a report once that while windows do lose some heat and cold they just dont lose enough to justify their cost. However, for looks and noise they are worth it.
I would tell you the brand of window we have I do not see a name on them other than Cardinal LG etched in the glass...pretty certain that is the glass company and not window manufacturer.
