I want to use my smaller 20g tank’s water to add to my new 40g tank. However, due to time constraints, can I empty that old water into a tub 2 or 3 days ahead with no circulation? Or will it lose all beneficial bacteria, etc?
bacteria will be fine unless the water gets really hot or really cold. even then whatever is in the water column wont completely die off. but keep in mind the majority of the bacteria your tank uses for denitrification live on the surface of the objects in your tank.
