Tank is all leveled and some rock is in the tank. Any opinions on this rock situation? Does this look like a pretty good aquascape? Anything I could do to improve it?

I have a Sunpole Magnus VSY-4000 return pump and a Simplicity Aqua 120DC protein skimmer. I had to modify the return pump slightly, because I believe it is too big for my application (got it cheap though!). So I picked up a PVC 1/2” union with an NPT thread and then I will use a 1/2” NPT to 5/8 hose barb adapter to connect to the vinyl tubing for return.

It’s coming along nicely. The refigium light is a Kessil H80. I do have a lot of cables to manage which I will tackle this week. I currently have an Nero 3 power head and I’m going to get another one to complete this build.

I added 80lbs of Caribsea Ocean Direct Caribbean sand and picked up a bucket of Red Sea Coral Pro from Mike at ADG. I have been mixing and filling since about 5. I am making good progress.

Last night I finished filling the tank and added flocculent. This morning it is looking great! I poured a bottle of turbo start in it as well. Today I need to cable manage my mess of cables

Today the HMS dual light mount came in so I changed the mounting on the lights. The flex arms were hard to get them exactly the same height and I am a bit particular when I cannot get things to line up (lack of symmetry bothers me). Tomorrow I am going to design some clips and 3D print them to route the cables. I am also Going to do some cable management in the cabinet to fix the rats nest of wires I have down there.

I printed a few cable clips and attached them to the cabinet using 3M mounting tape. I think the results are much improved.

Oh man! It has been a while since I posted. So it has been a journey cycling this tank. I was having issues getting the ammonia down to a reasonable level. I did the Dr. Tim's fishless cycle on it with ammonium chloride. It wasn't until Thursday evening that I reached a reasonable ammonia level. Friday I added some red ogo and bio blocks to my refugium. Saturday I went to get some of my first inhabitants. Based on recommendations from Josh and reading from ReefBuilders I decided to start with a CUC. I debated on what CUC I wanted to get and ultimately decided to go with snails. So I picked up 20 snails and 2 cleaner shrimp this weekend. I also picked up a Reef Dose 4 dosing pump and color coded line kit. I drip acclimated my cleaner shrimp and they were shy at first, but now they are crawling all over my rocks and sand. Also I am starting to get algae growth on the rocks and sand in the tank so definitely making progress here and glad my snails will have something to eat.

Update 10/14: I upgraded my RO/DI unit to a dual membrane with a booster pump because producing enough water to do my water changes was getting annoying. I also bought two clownfish. I’ve been battling a bacterial bloom lately ever since I added the first inhabitants. I’ve been doing frequent water changes to get my nitrates down. As of yesterday they were down to 10. Today I added a carbon and GFO reactor to try and lower the phosphates. I’m happy to say it has started to clear up after a lot of work and quite some time being cloudy.
