Hello
My tank is running for the past 10 months and recently I noticed a dark red stuff started growing over sand and rocks. It is very smooth like a blanket. Can some body tell how to get rid of it?. I tested the water everything is fine.
Thanks

Sounds like cyano bacteria, but it's hard to say without some pictures. Any chance you could share some?

In most cases, increased water changes and better husbandry to eliminate wastes will solve the problem. There are a few products designed at wiping the stuff out (chemiclean makes a product that's relatively popular), but they also kill of other types of helpful bacteria and I'd only use it as a last resort.

+1 for cyano...increase flow, decrease nutrients and it will go away on it's own. i'm not a fan of the cyano killing chemicals on the market.

Another option is to turn your lights off for 3 days. You won't hurt your corals doing this and the cyano cannot survive without it. I don't like the chemicals either but I have used chemi clean it does work but it always stresses my corals so I probably wont use ever again.
