How is everyone’s wrasses doing?

Mine quit eating once I reached therapeutic level on my copper. 😞

Even though I took 5 days to get to it.

So I took him out and put in observation tank. Also added live amphipods yesterday. He seemed to go after a few.

still doesn’t seem interested in frozen foods anymore. He will take one or two pieces but spits them back out.

he looked just fine the other day when I was over there. Did he have parasites?

No idea just noticed he wasn’t chasing after foods.

I doubt parasites. Copper is at 1.75 and had been feeding frozen food mixed with general cure for intestinal parasites.

So I’m thinking it’s the copper.

No, I mean why did you put him in copper? Was he sick before the copper?

Oh no. But Nothing goes into my new tank w/out going through a prophylactic QT treatment. If I lose this one (which will suck), I think I will be setting up a 40 breeder with algae, sand, rock and pods with under gravel filter. Will use it to house & observe more sensitive species using black mollies to check for ick/velvet. Will still feed food laced with general cure for 14 days though and will need to come up with something for external flukes.

Eh I disagree, but I come from a different school of thought. I’d rather just keep an eye on it and see if it shows signs. No need to put it through the stress of copper treatment if it’s not showing signs of sickness. All of those parasites exist in the wild, and their bodies do a good job protecting them. Just keep em fed and housed well and they’ll be fine.

We can agree to disagree. Our tanks are not the wild. Our tanks do an excellent job of concentrating parasites.

idk what camp i really fall in. i agree with both Cody and yourself to a certain extent. a healthy fish doesn't just get sick. first they get stressed and then become susceptible to various bugs that are always around. even the most stringent QT regiment will not be able to completely eliminate diseases. parasites maybe but bacterial and virus infections cannot be kept out. that does not mean that QT is unnecessary or superfluous, since it does deal with any internal / external parasites present. i dont have a QT tank so my "Swim or die MF" approach consists of floating for temp adjustment, cutting the bag, reaching in (or net) and drop it in the tank. of course, i dont have 1000's of $$ of fish so if it goes wrong, my losses are limited. if i was in your position @steveb i would probably modify my approach to match yours lol.
