So , I have a Red Sea Peninsula and a Maxs500...
The peninsula is atm a planted Discus and Angels tank (aka my wife's fish ) ...I know don't crucify me :)
So now I have the Max500, took it over from a fellow marshier getting out of the hobby...so it is basically not running...

Here is my plan:

I kind of want to make my Peninsula what it always was intended to be a true salt water tank ...I have the full Apex suite of things btw, some mp40's and a really good protein skimmer as well as rocks and what not....
So then it means I have to set the MAX500S to be the 'new' home for my wife's discus and what not....

The doubt:

The Max500S has basically everything already , pumps, lights, etc...and I could build it up from there...caveat is that the built in things basically go out the window as I am putting the whole apex in it....which seems like double waste....

What do you guys recommend?Discus and Mini Tank movie

why would the built in things go out the window? im not sure if a discus tank needs a full apex.

Ok maybe I wasn't clear....I have the full apex system, not installed anywhere...
I have a peninsula that has the sump , pump and the sweetwater lighting system...

I also have a 550Smax - the max comes equipped with pumps, lights, skimmer , etc....

So the thought is I deconstruct the peninsula as it is larger than the max move the discus fish and all there...its pretty much plug and play....
In the penninsula i then hook up the full Apex system , and build it as a fresh salt water tank ....

the doubt I have is the penninsula has been running with the discus for almost 2 years and the fish are very happy and thriving....I don't know if the Discus tank will be as succesful in the Max...so was seeking more of an advice...
and yes some have even told me go get a 3rd (simple tank ) and put the discus in there with a cannister filter and be done and make both max and peninsula salty's :)

I always hate to take down or move a thriving tank but I can't see why the discus wouldn't do good in the Red Sea if your goal was to make the peninsula a reef. Reef peninsula's are awesome because you can see on both sides. That is as long as they are wide enough to build hiding places into the rock pile in the middle. Sometimes that's difficult if the tank isn't real wide. Saltwater fish like to have hiding places.

I have started the process...I am stoked to get this tank to be a salt water one but am weary of the my discus...they are truly characters now i can literally have them in my hand and lftt them up and they are as I said the Mrs' babies...
So the process is , get the other tank running and we are starting to measure ALL parameters of both tanks for the next 2 weeks at least.
Once they get to acceptable ranges of each otther I am going to start moving them ....starting with the small discus first (maybe they will get some growing spurt without the hormonal limitations of their bigger fish in current tank)....
the hard part will be getting the smaller ones and what not out...i have some really cool pleco's and the usual loaches too and as the picture/viedo shows have a ton of little ones too...will be a fishing expedition...

and yes even this tank is overkill for discus :) but I rather have it overkill than too little as the discus are quite picky come water quality.
BTW...I am debating whether to put on my tanks acrylic lids or not....I mean come summer and come HC time...with these tanks exposed and humidity...the AC and evaporation is going to be brutal...
I used to have all my tanks with glass lids...but people still say to me no you want it open so it can 'breathe' and you want the evaporation so you do water changes/top-off to refresh quality of water...
Any thoughts?

My 294g reef tank is open (with a screen top - don't do wrasses without it), but every other tank I've had has had a glass top, including my 150g reef, now an anemone tank basically. It keeps the tank warmer, which is a good thing with discus. Just do a real water change once in a while and the water should stay fine.

Well the babies have been rehomed to the other tank , came out nice

No onwards to deconstruction and clean up...
Then I need to figure out the whole hardware set-up want to do it in one go BEFORE I put any water in
I am even thinking of putting the water elements (aka reservoirs as part of the tank display...
I think the whole science part of a tank (minus all the cables and what not should be showcased too ...
More to come soon

And then also a set up for water I saw someone put up like a nice water and salt water combo, I have a rather dead corner here where I am thinling of putting a refill and salt water thing circulation in and even create some valves to do some water changes down the pipes, the mrs did not like the mess today 😁😁) , again anyone with ideas I am all ears, I want the hardware to be in place beacause once up and running it gets so hard to make changes!

very cool. a water change/mix station would be cool but I don't see how you could pull it off without the wife complaining about it.

Hence me wanting it to look somewhat pretty maybe put some leds behind it and use the water in it as a glow lamp kind thing 😁😁

I dunno if I want any lights around my water storage tanks. Might induce algae growth

Well fellow marshians...I am at a bit of a cross roads here...With all the goodies and cables and views and what not I am debating whether to put it all outside of the space next to the sump and showcase it , which requires even more tyding upof the cables and what not or keeping it down there and going for the sleek view of the tank alone.

I just get giddy about all the science and want to show it off as well without the myrriad of cables and what not...

So I was hoping if the comunnity has some pictures/ideas on how they set up their brain part of the rigs ...so the whole apex and connections ...including dosers...

I want to show it ff to people as part of the look how great the tank looks and well here is how I make it look great , and here is the sump with all the stuff mechanically doing it kind of tour...

Any thoughts? I am deliberately slowing the build down as i want to get all the hardware laid out/displayed properly before i start putting in water, sand or anything at this point...and i do have like a dead space on the corner...(people have talked me out of putting the water things there ...so maybe put there my 'workstation' for dosers, and maybe a screen that continously shows status..

Take a look at “hallaatchaon instagram. He has a similar Peninsula and did an amazing job with the equipment cabinet.

btw don’t forget to order your free cabinet front support kit from Red Sea.
