After some dialing in, getting 4 weeks out of a Redsea Reefmat 500.
17 bux a roll. 56 cents a day to run a roller mat.

Currently setup on a 140G/40B sump with a Varios8 return pump full on so plenty of flow.
Lessons learned is to not use the carbon/media tray on the bottom as it eats up the roll too fast.

Shooting for 6 weeks this go around, less fiddling with the tank.

whoa.... so for my first roll I lasted something like 2 months. my next roll is on track to doing about 1 month. Only difference being I started used that bottom tray for media. Never connected the two together.

I love my reef mat and even if it was a dollar per day it would still be worth it, lol! It makes sense that the media basket would affect the mat use since the trigger on the system is water level which is due to back pressure. I didn’t think the back pressure caused would be that significant. Very interesting findings! I will try removing my media bag and see how frequently it rolls after that. Thanks for the information!

yep. i guess a compromise would be to pull the media basket out partially to ease the restriction. i ended up just bagging it and placing in a high flow area.

Yea the flow through media reactor slows flow quite a bit. I have dedicated reactors so no needs for that feature. I have it set to the slowest advance and it seems like it’s holding well. I did increase my tank flow to x10 turnover so the larger organic particles would get filtered out more quickly. The RM1200 really is a nice piece of equipment and compliments the whole system very nicely. I also don’t have the fluctuations of flow when socks fill up so everything stays nice and level where it’s supposed to be.

@second_decimal I have a mini reactor, but I took it out because the media basket looked quite convenient. Apparently laziness always appeals to me. I decided to reinstall it this morning in hopes of better carbon usage and less filter roll usage. It took a while to figure out where it should go, because I don’t have a whole lot of room. It’s getting pretty tight in there. Lol!
