New to salt water tanks and want to set up a refugium. Can I do it in this type of sump set up? Should I get algea barns refugium start up kit? Its for a 75g tank.

No, you won't be able to do it in that type of sump. The macro algae would get in the pumps and the light needed to grow macros would force you to clean the equipment all the time since stuff would grow all over it. Generally need a sump with an extra chamber to use as a refugium.

There are many types of Macro Algae, I think most folks tend to focus on the common 3 (Chaeto, Caulerpa, and Dragons Breath). There are many M.A.'s that make a nice addition to your D.T. if the refugium in the sump idea doesn't work. I have Pencil Cap, Christmas Tree, Mermaid Tail, Red Grape Caulerpa, Halimeda, and Flame Algae in my shallow softy tank so I still get the nitrate reducing benefit of having a fuge, my MA just happens to be in the DT.
