Ok so here is my question, If I was to receive a tank that has dual overflows But I want to do a Beananimal on it, can I remove them and safely "plug" the drains somehow?

I have this dream to do my next tank as a peninsula type that can be viewed from 3 sides with a coast to coast overflow on the side, I've passed up a couple of good deals because the bottom is drilled, so any hints ideas? thanks in advance.

I would think just silicone some pieces of glass over them. That's what I did on my 40 breeder.

you can get bulkheads and plug them with pvc plugs in case you want to use them again or you can do like fishboy says and silicon a piece of glass over it

i prefer to put brand new bulkheads in and put a small piece of pvc with a cap on it. do this on both sides for safety. glue the pvc in on the bottom side, but leave room so you can cut off the cap and still use the bulkhead. or you can get the bulkheads the has threads on both sides. use srew in caps. makesure you use plumbers putty. better than the tape. no leaks. good luck.

what size tank is this?

or you can use them as returns and hide the pvc with live rock, get reat pourus pieces and scape around the pvc, use shelves for ledges, etc. and put loc line on the end so you control where the flow goes and you can keep it out of water sitting right at the top so no back flow during power out.

That is exactly what I am planning on my 120. It has two holes in the bottom, one is being plumbed directly into the drain on my bathroom sink. I will use a short standpipe to raise the opening above the sand. I think that is one way I can keep water off our laminate floors.

I have a 36" dual 150w MH fixture from my current tank that I am going to suspend in my canopy somehow, and two sets of retrofit 48" T5HO lights. I plan to put two bulbs in front of the MH and two behind it. I haven't decided on what bulbs to use, but Dennis recommended some actinic bulbs. I won't be at that stage for at least a month or more though. I have to get my stand done, holes drilled, overflow made, plumbing done, etc.

Do you think 150s will be good enough? I am completely clueless about MHs and Im buying the tank with a 2 250's fixture... yay or nay?

Well, my current tank is 24" deep and I have the fixture on it right now. My stuff does not grow alot, but I'm attributing that more to the old bulbs which I am replacing soon. I am using the MH because of the shimmer effect, otherwise I would probably just use 6 or so T5HO bulbs. 250's would probably be great for the tank, but I don't want to buy new lights and also the 150's will help with the electric bill.

bulk head the bottom and plug it and there should be no worries about leaks. Just FYI when you cut out the overflows the you will always be able to see a silicon streak where the overflow used to be. It's fine if you are viewing from the front of the tank, but might be unsightly if you are converting it to a Penn.
