Rock

uhh this maybe a dumb ? I've been known to ask a few  but what
the heck, I'm kind of figuring that is a model set up of tank behind the
rock, but what is the box looking object up above behind rock going
to be as the actual structure?

That's the internal overflow box.

Looking good Mark but you may want to open it up a bit more. I did the same thing with table rock and thought I liked the look but now I think I'm going to be pulling some of my LR to thin things out a bit.

John,

If you're going to cull some of your table rock, please let me know...I'm currently on the hunt for three dinner plate-ish sized/shaped pieces...

What would look nice is to open up the middle more like you had in one of your earlier mock ups while making the rock. What happened to you 2 ton islands?

:D

An arch bridging the 2 across the middle would be nice and you could even do that with some flex pvc coated with spray on non-toxic great stuff to give it a rocky appearance and make it easy to attach corals to.

If you look at the Reef Central TOTM and read through it it details what he used to give his pvc a a blended look.

Thanks Cynthia,

I like that also. I need to find a few more threads like that and play until I come up with something I like. Thanks for the link.

i plan on going to pick up the rock that i made sometime this weekend. it's been in the gulf for 4 weeks now curing. i'll rinse it nice with some fresh water, maybe in a tub for a couple days to kill any harmful stuff, then put it in. thanks for the ideas mark

Cynthia J.,

You will be happy to know me and my rocks made a pack.
They decided to participate in the style I wanted after all.

While this is by no means a finished product, I just threw something together to get and idea of what I could do.

I have decided to go with 2 larger towers something like below and 2 smaller towers as separate islands.

Thank you sir!

I hope for more WOW from you, once I take time and do it right.

This take build looks like it is going to turn into about a 6-7 month long project, I am taking time to get it the way I want it to be the first time around.

MarkieB you should write up an official article for this. Maybe something for reefkeeping magazine.

While I appreciate your confidence in me, I am not much of a writer.
I am doing good to keep this thread alive.

Nothing I have done is original. I have just borrowed from research of the best of... Including our own CRVZ who gave the the idea to use rods to build a rock structure.

It is going in a 1600.00 tank! Trust me I tested it! :D

I shook it, rocked it, bent it. Although not at first, I am no longer concerned about a fall. EVEN if is happened I run a bare bottom starboard tank, so nothing should happen. ( Note to self always keep Murphy's law in the back of your head)

I really feel confident it is fine!
