Although it is not the look I want, I did a trial run today! Pretty easy and neat the way it turned out!

t's funny looking at the pics is helping me see a few rock tweaks I want to make, as well as the cleaning of the little rubble that broke loose! the tank is 4 feet wide and 3 feet in depth for those that don't know! My main goal was not to have any visible equipment and strong circulation. I am happy with the results!

Starting a new reef tank after over a 10 year break. Thinking about doing this same thing on a new tank set up that will be pretty close to the original posters build. Main reason is that Is it may be hard to find live rock sizable enough to stack in a 30" tall tank as i would like the main structure to go vertical almost to the top and It appears live rock is harder to come by than it was the last time i set up a tank. My family has a place on west bay in Galveston My thought is to cure it in the bay right off our dock It will probably turn into live rock there pretty quick. anyone tried something like this wondering what galveston bay hitchhiker's would do to a reef tank.

Sounds interesting. Most LFS have wet and dry LR depending on what your looking for and I am aware of one LFS that carries Marshall / Cook Island LR (with interesting hitch hikers), but being out in Galveston it would be quite a drive for you.

In the past we did collecting trips and BBQ's to Galveston so I would think that if we are crazy enough to put what we harvest in our own reef aquariums, you should be ok. @Reefaholic may have some useful knowledge or @chris85. Good luck with your build, keep us posted!
