They got some investment capital infusion. Not sure of the amount. But they now have additional masters to please.

I personally think they have shot themselves in the foot with this acquisition. What is my motivation as an LFS to continue to carry Neptune products since anything I sell is putting money in the pocket of my competition?

I wonder how this is going to effect the price. The acquisition of MD seemed fair obvious; they wanted to buy out the second biggest fish (see what I did there?!) and expand their distribution capacity/speed. Buying out Neptune is something that a retailer would do to acquire a private label of their own. Conveniently enough, this particular brand is the dominant controller in the hobby. No doubt they will use their new ownership to leverage their competitors even more so. I’m guessing they brought in some retail exec from another industry as a consultant or gave him a position near the top. These are big boy moves. They can now have the lowest cost and highest margin on one of the industries leading, growing brands.

I also wonder if they leave the Neptune brand as it is or truly make it the BRS private label. My professional experience in retail would say they leave it as Neptune, but who knows.

Well people like me that HATE neptune, this can't be worse than it already is. Neptune hates their customers after they are out of warranty so maybe BRS can fix that and stand behind their very expensive products. My apex is now a very expensive aquarium monitor and backup heater controller. My Jaebo pumps are lasting longer than the neptune wav pumps did!

If I am ecotech I am thinking of ways I can sell to Saltwater Aquarium at a discount since BRS now competes with me on many products. Or use Saltwater Aquarium as my Amazon distribution site, and cut them in on the costs.

I would bet everything stays the same they just now have more minds and money to throw at more products. its not in BRS’ best interest to private label it as its already a well know an established brand so would just hurt to rebrand it. To keep customers of BRS happy also they need to still sell other controllers for the non apex users or they will lose a lot of business
