I don't normally do reviews, but I needed to make an exception for this out of town LFS.
I first heard of them a week ago from another member and learned they were headed to the store to pick up some fish (store is 3hrs away!). Thankfully he graciously agree'd to pick up a few fish for me. The fish he brought back were the healthiest I had seen in a long time, so I decided to take a drive out to Desoto, TX myself and see the store for myself.
It is unassuming on the outside, I actually drove right past it twice! There is no big neon sign or banner, just a modest sign by the front door.
The store is modest looking, no product advertisement all over the place, not much in the way of dry goods and no corals.....just fish and CUC......and the smallest sea horses I have ever seen aside from hatchery at MG.
I had the chance to talk with the owner, Lee, who was one of the friendliest folks I've ever met and his interaction with his other clients was very personable.
Lee explained to me that he does not sell fish as soon as they come into his store (and yes, even during covid, he is still getting weekly shipments!). All fish that arrive in his store go through a round of prazipro and then go into his tanks (which all are running with low dose copper and each system is run with a UV steralizer) where he observes them and ensures they are eating before they ever leave his store, upwards of 7-10 days to ensure his clients are getting the healthiest fish possible.
His fish showed zero signs of parasite, bacterial, or fungal infection and I saw none with scaring or fin tattering. He had fish of all sizes, from nano size to 750gl+ tank size and the varierty was wonderful, from common to rare, to new hybrid, with very reasonable pricing.
After my transaction, We were invited to hang around and talk shop (it was nice to receive that verbal invitation instead of just assuming).
If you are ever in the Dallas area it would be well worth your time to drop south about 20 minutes and visit School of Fish and say hi to Lee!
