My girl has expressed a lot of interest in raising clownfish, and I am excited to help her out with this venture. :devilish:
I expect tons of failure, headaches and learning along the way. To give us a bit of a leg up, I am interested in hearing from anyone who has seriously tried this. (I've already reached out to LitzmanMarine for some guidance.)
If anyone can give links to articles or books you have read that contain helpful and CURRENT information, that would be amazing.
I've searched around a bit and found this thorough article LINK on the subject, but its a bit old. Newer sources of this kind of information is what we're looking for.

What timing....
Just realized my clowns have laid eggs on the glass!
I've had these guys for two years and this is the first time they've ever laid eggs.

The number of eggs dwindled pretty quickly over the course of a week. By yesterday there were only six eggs that I could see developing. This morning they were all gone.

I'm going to add a clay pot to their corner and hope that they lay eggs there next time.

I've also purchased a breeding pair from someone here and setup a dedicated breeding tank for them.

We will be buying phyto and rotifer cultures soon.

Found another, much larger, clutch of eggs on the glass on Saturday, just as I was getting ready to add a clay pot. Hopefully we'll be able to get some hatches this time around.

Do you culture phyto for the babies?
The entire fry food chain is on my to do list for sure. For now, I have some roti-feast which I hope will suffice until I get the rotifer culture later
Because my time is extremely limited, im thinking about skipping the phyto culture and using RG complete to feed the rotifer culture.

I'm seeing some silver in the eyes of the eggs. I believe they will hatch tonight, but I do not have a larval trap and can't find one locally.
I'm hoping I'll be able to save a few fry with the flashlight and scoop method.
We shall see how it goes.

So I had the Vossen trap setup last night to catch clownfish fry. They didn't (most of them anyway) hatch, but I found about 6 other type of larva.
Turns out they're emerald crab larva. I put them in the fry tank anyway. They seem to go after the bottled algae I feed my rotifer culture. Who knows how long they will last.
There is almost zero info out there on raising emeralds.

humble
oddly enough i was just asking if anyone in the community was breeding clowns in that recent marsh zoom contest/meeting. There used to be a few people on this board that used to do it but i guess they are no longer around. i know they had some pretty informative threads on that same project. maybe @tektite could help? seems like he has had some success. So cool you are going down that road. good luck.

Yep, this thread was actually from last year when my clowns initially started spawning, and I wasn't set up at all to handle the babies.
This time around I'm in a much better position to have at least a little success.
I also found that this is a great way to get the significant other more involved in the hobby (and paying less attention to receipts)
